Just tried the gel manicure that dries on with the uv light. Lasted for almost three weeks without chipping! Best of all it dried in literally 10 sec. Only some salons in Israel have it- the new salon in the Har Nof shopping center does it- and only some in America. It's pricier than a regular manicure but it's worth it. Only other disadvantage is that you have to go back to the salon to have it removed.

Any of these pricier manicures last for weeks. They're terrible for your nails, though. They'll be paper thin underneath.

I tried that already, and was also happy. But I didn't like that I had to go back to the salon to take it off for the mikva, and it cost me an additional $4 to remove.
One tip that I do for a manicure not to chip is put a coat of clear nail polish every two days or so, after a shower or washing dishes.

yeah please do. I used to get regular manicures every week or every other week and my they were so nice but chipped after a couple days. For my lechaim and wedding I had acrylics and they made my nails overly thin and brittle with dents...they looked awful.

Same here. I also like Sally Hansen's "Diamond Strength" top coat and nail polish.
As far as the gel tips... for me I find it to be a shame to ruin my nails underneath. But for once it a while, it's probably great!

you know, I forgot about that. I used to apply nail tech everyday and that kept my nail polish from chipping (its been a while thought that's why I forgot)

just had it taken off yesterday. my nails never looked better! they always used to break, the gel made them much stronger. now I have a regular french manicure on bx I have to go to the mikvah next week, but right after the mikvah I'm going back for another gel manicure. The salon I use doesn't charge for removal if you are going to put it back on after the mikvah. My manicure lasted the whole 3 weeks! usually the car seat breaks them in a couple of days.

I just had gel tips (they are different to acrylic...) for the last five months without removing them - only refilling. I was starting to bug me cos one broke here and there - so I just let them all break (or forcibly removed them - they can be filed to remove the gel - but that is not the way I did it...) to save the cost of removal (here it costs the same as refilling) my nails are extremely brittle underneath (you only had them for 3 weeks, so I guess they weren't affected) but I don't regret the 5 months of wear. it may be more expensive than a manicure - but it works out worthwhile, u get three weeks of wear each time. Now I will use sally hansen miracle growth to outgrow my brittle nails quickly...

Get acetone and soak for a long time. You don't need them to do that for you.

It's nice if you hve a bunch of simchas together; or like tishrei time, if you don't have mikvah in the middle. It's expensive and time consuming to keep putting on and taking off.
For the record, acrylics are the cheapest but the worst for your nails. You're better off with powder or gel.
