I'm confused. why does it keep showing clips of crown heights, what's the connection between people leaving satmar way of life, and crown heights? nothing!

See, this is where generalization (see the Trembling Before G-d thread) is improper. Stephanie Levine wrote a book about LUBAVITCHER girls and she's now a self-appointed expert on Chasidism?

It's also a little silly to explain the life of a Satmar Chasid in Williamsburg in a five minute newsclip to people who have no context for this information. Though I may not agree with everything about the Satmar lifestyle, I do understand that there are reasons for each of the things mentioned in that newsclip, though they just mush it all together to say: WEIRDOS! CULT!

I know, it's really funny that they're discussing the Satmar, but almost all the clips are of 770! Most of it comes across as ignorant because of stupid mistakes like that!

90% of it was filmed in crown heights.
stephanie levine couldnt have discusted me more. she knows good and well that we do not look at yidden that way and that our lifes mission, as lubavitchers, is going out in the world because of our selfless ahavas yisroel for every yid, that we got from the Rebbe, to give every single jew back his heritage.
she made false on that show and acted like an expert in a field that SHE WAS NOT.

I tohught this stephanie had al iking for chassidism which she shows in her book but in the interveiw she was downright horrible
also the girl says she doenst understand y her parents look down on her, ok so get out of satmar if u need to breathe but it doesnt mean putting on pants..........
and for someone to leave his wife n never c his kids, hee says not to confuse them, ye right he doesnt want to c them, he's helping ppl fry out personally so frummies can come to his apt. n meet others with issues... he might help a few but really come on....

I'm really sad to see this.. I know Hershy - the one interviewed, very well, and am surprised to see this...
Firstly, he's not from Williamsburg, has never lived there....
Still trying to figure out what CNN had to offer.

My guess is that the Satmar would have chased CNN out of W-burg, so they went to Crown Heights.

Thats what I was thinking- a room full of beds for boys ?? What goes on in there?? Besides, I think CNN was trying to show the flip side to williamsburg from a man who was once there, and now I assume he's in Crown Heights (where they interviewed him). I've seen him around. I don't get the connection at all.

Yeah, that was what my husband speculated....

At first I thought I was the crazy one thinking all those clips looked exactly like CH and 770 - until husband assured me that he saw it too.

I don't think it's ignorance. It's just plain not caring.

Yeah, there was, what, two scenes actually shot in Williamsburg there (the one with the women pushing carriages down the street and another with kids crossing the street). Everything else was definitely in Crown Hieghts.
