I have the Nikon 5000. (digital)
Bought it around 5-6 years ago.
Originally paid approx $1000. Today probably same camera sells for around $200-250.
For me, it's important that camera has a fast shutter speed. mine does not it's the newer cameras that are better at that.
shutter speed: how fast your (digital) camera processes photos and is ready/allows you to take the next shot

I have an Olympus stylus (received as gift).
Shutter speed is terrible (as queen explained) and I can't figure out why the pictures come out blurry so many times.

Shutter speed is adjustable- it's the time between pressing the button and the camera actually taking the picture. The longer the time is, the more light goes in, and the more chance for it to get blurry.
What you are talking about is called (I think) recycle time.
I have the Canon SX100 IS. It's great, besides that it raises ISO in low light, making for grainy photos. I change it manually, but with active kids, KA"H, it's hard to do each time.
Otherwise it's really great.

I did a lot of research and came up with this. I wanted something professional that wasn't HUGE but still affordable.
In this section there is the thread I started (a page or 2 back) about choosing a camera. There is a lot of back & forth between the different models.
It has different manual options. If you don't intend to use them, then you don't need them. But I like to be able to choose different settings. It also had 10x zoom, which makes for gorgeous blurred background photos. If you want to see photo samples, I also have a thread up in this sectioned titled with the camera's name.
