My almost 3 yr old boy woke up Friday morning and decided he wanted to wear underwear. I figured why not, give it a try. He's kind of a spacey kid. yet he is able to hold himself in for 3 hours. he's having a hard time figuring out how to let it out when he sits on the potty.
Any suggestions?

I hope he made by now, but don't let him hold it in too much. if he can't figure out how to make, or he's afraid to, tell him to ask for a diaper when he feels the need.

maybe run the bathroom faucet when he sits down.

I taught my boys to pish standing up. this might help him, too.

I cut out tissue paper fish and they were allowed to throw a few into the bowl to make the fish "swim" when they pished. A BIG motivator to go in the toilet. LOL

good luck.

I tried the water, the tissue. he just sits there on the toilet for 1 hr, until finally he can't hold it in anymore it comes out.
I'm trying to find a way to teach him to when it's time to try, something should come out. ie: before we have to leave the house, I can get him to sit on the toilet, and let it out??

When he's already going, would practicing stopping it and going again help? Just a thought.

My boys like the tissues, only I made "flowers" for them to "water." That worked for me. Smile

Any problems with #2? (My youngest boy has no problems letting go for pish, but he'll really have to go and he can't for #2--we go to the toilet 10-15 times before it finally can't wait any longer...I wonder if they are related.)

malky, you might just have to be OK with him having a few accidents till he gets the feel for it. Act like you totally don't care that he just pished on the floor and keep a lot of shmattas and spray cleaner ready. Then he might learn what it feels like to let go more easily.

Sitting on the toilet for an hour waiting to go is silly.
