My betta was like a little, pretty blue puppy. He'd swim up to let me feed him by hand, bit by bit. When I came into the room, he'd wag his little tail-fin. He had personality and warmth.

My beta was anti social and sulky. Like owner, like pet, I suppose.

Not necessarily. I wouldn't describe myself as the type to wag my tail-fin when I see somebody I know. Quite the contrary, I swim to the deepest, darkest part of my tank and hide in the little plastic castle.

I don't know even know what a beta is. Other than a letter in the greek alphabet.

I tried to google humanist philosophers to find a name that worked. I found the name Lauro Quirini, a Venetian humanist. Most likely, I am mispronouncing the name in my mind, but I liked the sound of it.

I thought it was a homophobic slur. So relieved it's just an innocent reference to a humanist philosopher, surprisingly, one of the ones I don't know.

Now that is obscure; I think I read a little of him, like a decade ago!

A tiny little fish. The males have bright colors and are very popular as pets.

The kitten is now curled up in my cardigan. And she is purring. I am very happy.

Aw, he's pretty. Mine was this gorgeous blue-green. I don't have any pictures, but he's still in my mother's freezer, years later. My father was going to bury him but never got around to it.

Clarissa, tell me you are kidding!
We had a blue one, too, before that.
I think we should start a thread for pet photos!

"We've named her Blahblahblini, you know, that famous twelve century Venetian figurine sculptress."

we got dd a betta in this itty bitty tank & it was real cute until it started floating around the top.
I don't miss it though. my dh has a 100 gallon salt water tank in our front hall. we have more than enough fish around here.

Every time I go to the petshop, I end up getting a Betta. I can't help it. They are so pitiful in the plastic-cup-sized tanks where they can only rotate on their axis. I feel like I must rescue them and set them free in a real tank.

Re: pesach, I think the CRC or something has a list of what can be given on Pesach. I think it was Hill's Science Diet that was OK.
