safety issue of wearing black at night

As Shabbos was ending, I was struck by a car. The elderly driver probably couldn't see me due to a mixture of limited night vision and limited reflexes. I was wearing a black coat. My sister immediately sent me a white one but I am having my ankle pinned this evening (I'Y'H") and it may be awhile before I will be wearing her gift. I argue with my children a lot about wearing their reflective belts. It would be great if someone would listen.

we always wear the reflectors, my parents won't let us out of the house with out them! in cities with not side walks, it's not a joke!

My community recently started a campaign to get people to wear reflectors on friday night. I think they're selling them for $3.00 each, or 3 for $5.00.

Now, how do I convince my husband to wear one?!

Oh, just to add some of the nurses I worked with in the hospital got private work here in the neighborhood with families with multiples. They all said how scary it is to DRIVE here on a Fri night b/c they were afraid they were going to hit someone - dark streets, poor lighting, people wearing black and many walking in the street.

Bubby, Refuah Shelaimah. I hope your unfortunate experience can be a learning one and a wake up for others.

Stem, tell your husband he can wear his reflector proudly with my husband who I make wear one every week. I've even offered to pin it to his Shabbos coat so I don't have to remind him.

come to Lakewood, it's normal and necessary to have a reflector. I almost don't feel bad if I chas v'shalom hit someone in the dark because I can't see them.
If your life more worth it than being manly.

Thanks! I can do some walking now but it is slow and awkward. My feet are not identical. Luckily I was not planning to get a job modeling sandals LOL

You're right, it's very important to wear something that makes you visible at night. I really should buy something, I often walk my BLACK dog in a BLACK skirt and top when it's very dark outside. Not very smart, and you're story is a good kick in the tushie to remind me that I NEED to get something!

It's a macho thing. Men tend overall to engage in riskier behavior than women: they are less likely to wear seatbelts, more likely to drink and drive, more likely to speed...

You have such a great sense of humor. I am sure that has helped alot during your recovery. Do you have alot of help for Pesach cleaning?
