My husband and I just invited ourselves last minute to someone (family) for the meal tonight. I felt really bad and told him to insist that I will bring something.

Sooo... they asked me to bring dessert of all things. I NEVER make dessert. I hate to patchke and its not something I enjoy spending time on. This is a family that always makes the latest, fanciest mouthwatering cakes and stuff so I really feel like I have to bring something decent.

I need suggestions for something that is fancy and good but not easy to ruin. I'm not even sure what ingreidints I have*. I'll start searching the forum but in the meantime any suggestions are welcome.

*Off the top of my head I know I at least have eggs, cocoa, flour, sugar, some apples... not sure what else...

Put 4 cups of sliced apples in a large mixing bowl. Add:

2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
4 tbsp. cocoa
2 eggs
1 c. raisins
1 c. walnuts or pecans (optional)

Mix well. Add 2 cups of flour, mixing well. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.

Sorry, yes it's a cake.

If you have a springform tube pan or a bundt pan, it would look super fancy...

What about one of your own tried and true chocolate cake recipes, but baked in a tube or bundt pan and then sprinkled with confectionery sugar once it's cooled?

do brownies with a mint frosting (theres a recipe in the spice and spirit, but any brownie recipe with mint added to the frosting will be similar)

Kind of like after 8s in a brownie!

if you have margerine or puff pastry you can make apple pie or crumble.

heres an easy crumble recipe

I cup flour, 3/4 sugar 1/2 cup margerine (you can use oil though ive never tried it with oil)

throw in food processor and process till it is crumbly. throw over sliced apples (peel if desired) with cinnamon sprinkled.

Its probably too late by now but for next time...

Get a package of tofuti cuties or J&J sandwich ice creams (both are pareve)
lay them out flat (cookie side on bottom and on top) on the bottom of an oblong pan (a row of 3 or 6 depending how much u need)
put a thin layer of the Smackin Good frozen whipped topping - the one in the blue container (defrosts very fast so easy to spread)
Put a thin layer of crunched up vianese crunch
put another layer of ice cream with a layer of whipped topping and vianese crunch on top
Freeze for a little bit
Looks very pretty when u take it out of the pan and tastes yum
U may want to line the pan with wax paper so its easier to remove from the pan when frozen. Cut in strips and can sprinkle with choco syrup or serve plain.

I ended up doing this. I played around with the topping by using brown sugar and oatmeal. It was a hit thank you! I never tried making it before and it is so simple and yum.

I'm glad you liked it. actually the original recipe is brown sugar, however I never have brown sugar (for kashrus reasons) so I use white.

for maximum yumminess keep it warm and serve with vanilla ice cream.
