Pending MTA (New York City Transit) strike is driving me nuts. Friday my husband had to think of a way to get to work if there was a strike and now tomorrow again. They can't do this. It would cause caos to the city. AHHHHH!!!

a few more vents about the strike....

1. Its against the law. They should in jail the people who stirke. Civil workers shouldn't do this to us since we rely so heavily on mass transit.

2. The contingency plan is just a plan and it will make less caos but still very hard to get into manhattan from the other boroughs.

NO WAY do I want to walk...in the COLD are they nuts...or pay large cab fares..

Exploding anger Exploding anger Exploding anger

THEY CAN'T DO THIS!!!!!

What should be done is that mayor Boomberg should get himself and his friends that work for the city and make them do something for the city for a a change like get those trains working. Atleast they would be doing something good for us!!!!!! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Can't they just get other people to work the trains till the strike ends? Can't they hire temps or something?

I total hear you Pickle Lady- Now my turn to vent Wink :

I use the Subway at least twice a day, and it has been annoying the past few days/weeks. There have been too many "inconveniances and delays" and furthermore they can't make up their minds.

I had to wait utnil 12 am last thursday to see weather ro not there'd be a strike bc then school would be cancelled. Now I have to wait till 12 am tonite to see weather or not we need to call a cab and leave even earlier than usual.

I heared MBloomberg, and he's def. against it, the gvt wants no part of it, so who suffers, us- civilians, and for what?

For the MTA workers to get even more $ that they are making, for them to get more benefits, an earlier pension etc.

These ppl are making at least bet 50-60 g a yr and now they are gonna b preventing us who make 20-30 g a yr to get to work (as quoted by M. Bloomberg) ... ARGH Twisted Evil Exploding anger Twisted Evil Exploding anger Twisted Evil !!!

it's actually in their contracts that they can't go on strike, so this is completely illegal. but they're a monopoly and the twu is taking advantage of it. in the 80's, a similar situation occured with the air traffic controller's union and president reagan ended up firing all the stikers. maybe if bloomberg did something as drastic, they would be begging for their jobs back and take the contract as offered, which isn't bad to begin with.

Yeah but if they were all fired , then what would it help, there wouldn't be anyone operating the trains and buses.

Yups, like PL said, the STRIKE is definately on Crying !!!

We ordered a van to drive all us teachers to work today, didnt taek too long once we passed the bridge, but to actually get to the bridge took us like an hr and 1/2. I just got back now, it took us like an hr to get home tofay, which wasnt really bad.

We were nervous that we'd have to cancel school bc we didint want the kids not to learn and be prepared for chanukah, though we did have a delay opening.

Either way, it's all good, I just felt soo bad on the way in and out when I saw hundreds of ppl walking the bridge, reminded me of tahalucha Wink !

I heared that even M Bloomberg walked the bridge today.

I don't think firing will help- they just have to come up with a negotiation. I do know in the past they've fined the Union for allowing the MTA to strike, so maybe they'll fine again, dunno?

The Achdus though, of getting ppl together (they won't let any car pass the bridge less than 4 ppl in it), and ppl offering rides to one another was nice Very Happy .

they have already fined, and the fines will continue as long as they are still striking.

I drove DH to work & I'm going to pick him up. It's not far from the house, but too far to walk & I needed the car today. The city really is a mess tho. It took guys from BP to get to Flatbush a lot longer than usual. Apparently Ocean Ave. was nuts!
