I read about it first on babycenter.com and then here http://www.diaperfreebaby.org/. Aparently there are cues your baby gives when they need to go. Its all about learning to pick them up.

I knew a mother who practiced this way of "toilet training". Even by 1 year, you could not have paid me to ever hold her daughter because she was wet about 120% of the time!

I have to say there is something in early toilet training that makes a lot of sense, not from a newborn IMHO that's totally rediculous as it would take up far too much effort over something that the baby is unable to control, but whereas my older dd was trained at nearly 3 and was tough to train as she would hold in for hours being too scared to make on the toilet, my younger dd who is 1 1/2 is definitely ready to be trained, I started to put her on the toilet at about 9 months, not all the time, but once in a while to avoid the whole phobia thing that dd1 went through, sometimes she would pee/poo and I would make a big fuss, sometimes not, whilst I recognise that it was nothing more than chance of getting the moment right at that age now she is fully aware of her needs she always tells me before she poops and often says peepee and goes to wait at the bathroom too. She is still in diapers but after the chagim when dd1 is back in the routine of gan I will try to train her properly and hope to get rid of the diapers during the day. However if I see she isn't ready I won't push it.

I was born in Russia. At that time it was Oyveavoy when one year old child wasn't fully potty traned!
As I understand, the way baby was learning to use a bathroom was same as was mentioned here.
It is possible.
But there wasn't disposable pampers there...
The problem is that moms getting addicted to pampers more than their kids...
I never used this method on my children thought. Smile

Here are some links on starting EC with an older baby.

It can be done, but some babies will be more responsive than others at that age. If you work, you could chose a time of the day when you are together with your baby to try out the potty. If you do it consistently, your baby can come to anticipate this time and go, even though baby is using diapers at other times of the day. Some people have even had caregivers who were interested in doing EC during childcare hours. Probably this is not possible for most people, but babies will figure out that different people in his or her life do things differently. I worked when my oldest was little and she still did well with EC, even though she used diapers at her babysitter's house.

Good luck!

I know someone who did this with one of her children. she started her DD at age 9 months I believe. Well the girl turned 3 a few months ago, and guess what she still has accidents EVERYDAY. no matter where she is, they had another baby about 6 months ago, I am not sure if she is trying htis method again, but I know with her other kids that she started about 18 months they didn't have the same issues.

My philosiphy is, train when the child is ready, forcing a baby/toddler to be trained before- will backfire. I have trained almost all my kids by the time they were 3, each trained with in a couple of days, for both day and night, and never were there accidents. With the one who was trained after 3, we were forcing him when he was 2 1/2 , he wasn't fully trained until almost 3 1/2- and we tried everything with this kid. But once he decided he wanted to do it, that was it he put the underwear on and never had an accident day or nite.
