My newborns sleep really well when held but not in a bassinet during the day
At night they are much more awake

I put my babies on a loose EASY schedule
eat, play, sleep
This way, I know that they are not hungry to play, and then settle them in for a nap without relying on nursing to go to sleep
There are so many reasons why your baby is constantly fussing:
1. overtired/overstimulated- babies who aren't put to sleep after their wake window (you can google wake windows) struggle to go to sleep, and then struggle to sleep well- causing a vicious cycle of overtiredness
2. reflux- underlying health condition that makes baby so uncomfortable- reach out to your pediatrician because until you deal with it, baby is in a lot of pain
3. hungry- a snacking baby can be hungry all the time/not fully satisfied- the EASY routine can help with this
4. Gassy
If any of these can be the issue- troubleshoot and hopefully things will change.
I find that everything changes at the 12 week mark, babies are just stronger and able to eat and play better and things really ease up

It was helpful to me to create a schedule based on the research I did online. Then adjust awake time as they grow.
The daily pattern is Eat, Play, Sleep which ideally takes 2.5-3 hours.
Once they're done eating, you spend time with them for 10-15 minutes and then place them in their crib for naptime. this cycle usually lasts 3 hours. As they get older, feeding takes faster, playtime/awake time takes longer and they sleep less too.
I also learned that most babies will give you one stretch of 4-6 hours of sleep per 24 hours. Try to encourage them to do that at night. That means forgoing your own nap or schedule and waking them at the 3 hour mark for a feeding.
Is your baby eating enough? too much? Gassy? Colic? Overtired? There are so many reasons he/she may be fussy. It can be so hard at times!

I feed baby and put to sleep tightly swaddled.
I find the more I get baby to sleep the more they sleep. The better they eat. The better they sleep.
I loosely followed the happiest baby on the block method for all my kids.

My baby never slept well. She was colicky and cried a lot.
Why would Babys need a schedule? They are babies. We have to take care of them the qay they need it, not the other way around.
It will pass. I told myself I can sleep in a few years. And it's true
