Why are the prices soooo out of hand these days ??
Eggs
Dairy
Frozen food
Pantry staples
And it's just getting worse by the week! It's not even staying at the price from previous week which was already higher than usual!

Unbelievable!

Something is very wrong with the US when eggs, a basic item, are more expensive in the US than in Israel.
Over here basic items like milk eggs butter bread cottage cheese and white cheese as well as basic yellow cheese have a max price by the government.

It's a combination of a couple of reasons, two of which are local to the United States.

First is the outbreak of the bird flu, which by law, means that entire coops have to be wiped out. Since 2022, over 110 million chickens have been killed by farmers in an effort to control the flu.

The second is a bit more insidious.
There are laws that make production more expensive in the united states.

For example, many states have a free range clause that simply means that traditional mass egg laying methods become infeasible. Regulations requiring free-range or cage-free conditions improve the living conditions of hens, but they also necessitate higher investment in infrastructure and management. More costs equals bigger price.

The price has risen slightly though. Definitely not like out of Israel

The government sets the maximum price, but they also give the farmers a subsidy. What we pay is only part of what the farmers get for thise items. Otherwise it wouldn't be sustainable.

I don't get it.
In Israel prices are set by the government on staples.
In America it's governed by competition.

What's the comparison?

We'll also just have an egg shortage here, rather than a price hike. We've been dealing with bird flu, too.

OJ has been insanely expensive for a while now. Over $4 for the calcium one. Insane. Used to be 2.99

In general I think my groceries went up in cost by double.

It’s like $5 where I live. I stopped buying juice and since my kids don’t like plain water, we just keep on making lemonade…

remember many years ago when the price of milk in NY state was dictated from the government?
I remember when it stopped and the price went up. There was talk all around on how the price is going to be going up because of this.
