My mil and dh's grandmother kept calling me fat my whole pregnancy... Nowadays every time the grandmother sees me she gives me tips on how to lose weight.. Um, I have a mirror . I have been struggling a lot with getting my weight down because of hormonal reasons. Why are people so unpleasant and insensitive at times?

Are there other topics where she makes socially inappropriate comments or just this one?
Is it possible that pregnancy is a sensitive topic for her? Is every pregnant friend of hers a reminder of her own difficult situation? Is it possible that she's trying to retain control of a situation where she's really out of control by "managing" the pregnancies of her friends and family?
That wouldn't make her comments more acceptable but at least more understandable.
