Just working on finishing everything up so the offices will each be private. | No, that’s pretty much a guarantee that I’ll never visit my office and just keep a laptop at home.

If you and your DH grew up there, what changed? I'm curious how living as a family is harder than how you grew up?
I would also advise seeing a therapist to work out your depression and anxiety. It may be solved by moving, it may be helped in other ways. Best is to work from the inside out.

Utopia is not found anywhere.
My close friend moved to Monsey outskirts. She is having an incredibly hard time making new friends. People are very isolated there.
Another close friend moved to Linden. It was a complete bust.
I actually have a friend who moved to the Catskills all year round and she is extremely happy there. No peer pressure, country life, living with nature. But ironically it is an even more frum lifestyle than Monroe, if that’s what’s bothering you.
Relocating can be amazing (and please stop worrying about your parents, you’re not a child). But you need to have your inner demons in order before you run. Remember that when you move, you are taking yourself along. Happiness will not suddenly appear when you have a new address. |
What do you mean by the bolded?

Same. I think a big difference is the mindset. And we don't have very large families here. Loads of young couples, and some middle aged ones. I also live on a very quiet floor.

I’m not a huge shopper, so I’m fine. Especially with Walmart deliver to home and drive goods. And yay, canopy!
DY but jokes on us…
Not all the houses here need gut renovations… I only need CLOSETS.
Yes, the simplicity and all is awesome! But I wonder where you live. I hear Virginia area does have some peer pressure. Love love love my block. But hate that we’re getting condos here… |
Is not driving an issue being on the outskirts.
And I always thought Monroe and KJ were totally separate live and learn.

Is your relationship with your parents generally healthy? Why do you think they’d be so offended if you left KJ?

Because often when someone moves away from Monroe it is for reasons that can be very painful to parents. I think if OP is really that miserable with where she lives, she needs to have a very serious discussion with a rav and therapist. I imagine you have children so you need to take their needs into account. Moving around children is a huge responsibility, as are any life changes. I don't think that the city you are living in the sole reason for all of the turmoil, but anyone feeling so down really should be given help. Hatzlacha op.
