I see ads for Il makiage makeup all day on Instagram and it looks so good. Is it possible that it really works?

I have combination/oily skin and I hate wearing makeup bc it always looks so cakey. I would love to find something easy to use that looks good.

What say you?

I use it! I think it does look much more natural then other foundations but when I tried it on its own it didn’t didn’t last the full day so now I use it as the top coat to my other foundation. I do their subscription service to get the lower price and bonus mystery gift each time lol

They use trickery in the advertisements. It looks good compared to really bad makeup with really bad technique, and it's not like it's terrible, but it's not that special either.

For combination skin, try using a very dewy foundation and a good setting powder. It doesn't even have to be an expensive one. I found the AOA Pure Complexion Foundation to be surprisingly good, and in the winter, it works better for me than the IT Cosmetics foundation that is good for my summer skin. Matte foundations tend to be longer lasting, but they go cakey more easily. Dewy foundations are best for people with dry skin. So for combination skin, you have to give your dry skin what it needs, then use powder to make it work for your oily skin. You can also use a silicone based "blurring" primer on the oily areas, though different primers work differently with different foundations and you always need to test a pairing on yourself to know whether it works.

Is there any makeup I can buy online? I am not a department store person.

I have a friend that took a course at Il makiage and I was a model for her one time. She used a foundation that she had to make sure she uses a color lighter than my shade because their foundations OXIDIZE!!! I’m sorry but that’s terrible for makeup. How is a regular person supposed to know which shade to get if the color changes once it’s exposed to air ? Anyways, the makeup was terrible.

You can buy almost any makeup online, but then you can't try on shades. So then I'd recommend either buying super cheap and buying multiple shades, or buying from somewhere that has a great return policy (though those are more expensive). If you already have a good shade match and just don't like the product, though, you can use findation.com or temptalia.com/foundation-matrix to match you to most major brands.

Personally, I would make an effort to try on foundation in person at a department store and see how it wears, how it looks in different lighting, etc. before purchasing.

Once you find something you like, you can just order online.

I bought it and don't love how it looks. I've tried all sorts of foundations and was hoping this brand lived up to the hype. It didn't last the day, and it made my skin look far more cakey. I even applied the product to even your skin before the foundation (which their customer support assured me was how to correct the look) and it was a dud. Now I stick to my Mary Kay foundation and don't try new ones. Chanel concealer, Mary Kay foundation and chanel powder to seal. Done.

I’ve tried it. Didn’t live up to the hype.
Not I’m back to my trusty Clinique with a Laura Mercier setting powder.
I did buy their green primer recently to see if it really worked to take away redness (I have very dry skin with some rosatia) and it did work a bit
