I’m looking for a school for my son with ADD and dyslexia/learning disability. He is 8 years old and can no longer keep up in the regular mainstream school with tests and homework as he is very below grade level in math, reading, and Kriyah. He is not hyperactive or behavioral at all. He is a sweet well behaved boy with a huge heart, a love for yidishkeit, and many talents. The school is pushing for ADHD meds but that’s not an option for us as they have caused very bad side effects in the past (we have tried several). Anyone send to any of these and know the difference? Do these schools push adhd meds for kids that need extra focusing prompts? Any other schools I should look into?

I know that Gesher Yehuda is an incredible school with an extremely dedicated staff and an amazing principal. Children thrive there. I'd definitely consider it.

If you're talking about Mrs. Neiman she left.
I would do more research about what it's like these days.

Actually, I'm talking about it now.I know kids who go there, two teachers who work there, and the principal is new and brought the place to a whole new level. They've been growing exponentially under her leadership from what I've seen and the kids are thriving there.

Do you know why she left? Do you send there now? How has the school changed?

I just wanted to add that my daughter with ADHD in shalshelet is not medicated and they are not asking me to medicate her

That’s so nice to hear!! I’m not sure how severe her ADD is but I am very turned off by schools so quick to push meds especially if they are a SPECIAL ED SCHOOL and the kid is NOT behavioral.

My daughter is a little bit older. I definitely should’ve moved her sooner. It’s a world of a difference being in a school that they’re working with you on your level then being so focused on trying to catch up to grade level and doing the work they want you to
