My dd is 2 years old. She seemed to have RSV last week, with trouble breathing at night. BH the nebulizer got us through. The doctor agreed it was probably RSV. Her breathing got better after Shabbos, but she came down with fever on Shabbos.
Today she has had fever, but it went down by now with Motrin. But she is spending her day just nursing and sleeping and nursing and sleeping. She did have times she was awake and crabby, but since 4:30ish, she has only been really awake once, when I woke her. She stayed awake for maybe 10 minutes, and she drank some water and ate some cereal. But then she nursed back to sleep. Each time she wakes up to kvetch or ask to nurse, she doesn't fully wake up, and she goes right back to sleep on me.
We were at urgent care this morning, and they said it seems to be viral and just wait it out. But I'm nervous that she's so sleepy.

I’d call her pediatrician, even the number for after hours if he’s closed by now, and ask

Did they take her vitals at urgent care? How's her breathing? How's her color?

I have a pulsox here somewhere, but I don't know where right now. Dh might have it with him and he's not home. She is nursing and she drank a little water, so I would imagine she's hydrated. Her diaper is a bit wet. She throws up when I give her tylenol, but only then.

Her color is good. Her vitals were good at the urgent care. Her breathing sounds fine to me.

If she was seen today, her pulse ox is good, and she is staying hydrated then fever and sleeping more wouldn’t make me run to the Er. If she stops drinking, color looks off, pulse ox below 90, not keeping anything down those are things I would make an ER visit for.

My 6 month old had similar last week. But she was vomiting incessantly also. Dr did as long as she's hydrated, nothing to do but wait it out

I don't think she has fever anymore. It went down the last time she had motrin, at 2:30. I just changed her diaper so she woke up crying and stayed awake for 5 minutes. Now she's nursing back to sleep again.

going to the ER is a waste of time. unless you come with an ambulance, they will make you sit there and wait for hours.
If you are afraid, and you would rather be in the hospital than at home, just in case, then you should go

Nursing and sleeping is pretty typical for a toddler getting over a virus.

You don’t need to go to the ER for a fever. The concern would be either if she wasn’t breathing well or if she is dehydrated. The fact that she is nursing is a very good sign.

You can give tylenol suppositories, so she won't throw it up

If you are afraid, and you would rather be in the hospital than at home, just in case, then you should go | This is false, but I wouldn't go to the ER without discussing with the pediatrician. Our pediatrician sent us to the ER (not by ambulance bh) and we had a fairly short wait.

Sleeping is letting her body fight the virus and recover. It's normal. Personally I would not give Motrin for fever unless the fever was getting very high. Fever is how our bodies fight off the illness. Only if she seems to have trouble breathing would I rush her to ER. Wishing her a refuah sheleimah.

There’s not much they could do for it at the hospital (talking from experience) as long as she’s breathing fine and staying hydrated then leave her. Sleeping means her body needs to rest to have energy to fight. I would keep an eye on her but wouldn’t go in just yet.

Thanks. She is still sleeping, and she usually goes in for the night sometime around now or later. But you all say not to worry. I called the pediatrician and they also said not to worry. So I am holding her and letting her sleep. Thanks.

Sleeping all day without a chunk of time awake is not normal. Even with a virus. If the kid is lethargic, they need to be seen again ASAP. If lot enough wet diapers, the kid can be dehydrated which is very dangerous for a 2 year old.
My kid has RSV and after a few days turned lethargic. Ended up in the hospital. Needed IV fluids; and x-ray showed that it had turned into pneumonia. We spend a few days in the hospital.

I'm going to echo that if she's hydrated and breathing okay, you can stay calm.
That being said, I'm sending hugs, because I know how hard it is to watch a baby be sick.
