Because you need a qualifying event mid year. Also one of my kids is medically complex and it’s not safe to have her uninsured until family care starts.

It's open enrollment, you can put her on a private health plan, you might need the private health plan anyway to cover doctors that jerseycare doesn't. I have that for one of my kids, jerseycare is secondary for her and pays her copays.

She’s not eligible on the market place because she’s eligible for Jersey care and my work plan. Except she’s not eligible for Jersey care because she has insurance.

In theory yes, except it’s messy because they’re not eligible for marketplace, and they can’t go straight onto Jersey care.

and we have been trying to get OFF jerseycare for almost six months as my children are no longer eligible due to change in income bh (we actually have not been eligible since COVID but they told us that weren't kicking anyone off until the emergency ended and then we called and they weren't kicking anyone off until their renewals came up) and we have been sending in mounds and mounds of documents each time they request something and we still can't get them to determine out ineligibility. I never ever heard of such a thing. I literally call once a week because I am so nervous that we should not get something we aren't eligible for and be in trouble and they tell us we sent in the correct documents and they are "processing it" and and will "determine eligibility"

Right I pay full price for private health insurance from a regular broker. I have that and jerseycare as secondary insurance. For just that 1 kid and everyone else is just on jerseycare

Her point was that you don't need a qualifying event until January 31st. It's not calles mid-year until then because that's when open enrollment ends. Open enrollment is not just for marketplace.

Please calm down and enjoy.

There's no need to kick yourself off. As long as you're submitting all the paperwork properly, you're covered. They can take as many years as they like, it's bureaucratic backlog and you're not going to be held responsible.
