Hi All! I need opinions/advice. We currently have a long medium sized kitchen with some barstools at the end of the counter. At the very end of the kitchen we have a table with benches. We are a large family knh, and rarely have everyone eating supper around the table together anymore besides for shabbos. And when we do, we dont fit comfortably in the kitchen anyway. When the little kids eat supper, it's usually them sitting at the counter on the stools and me leaning on the counter, feeding them, schmoozing, refilling, etc. I sit at the table sometimes to drink a morning coffee sometimes the kids join me, sometimes not. Projects are sometimes done on the table, sometimes on the counter, space depending. The table is nice to have when we have a lot of company and set up a buffet or have extra surface space.

I sometimes feel like the table collects clutter throughout the week (although the dining room table serves that purpose better lol), and we don't have a real comfortable sitting space on the main floor (space constraints). All toys are in the downstairs playroom unless the kids bring up a few now and then. I keep thinking it would be nice/cute/cozy to put a loveseat in the kitchen in place of the table and have a small shelf for the baby's toys/some books.

Would I be crazy to give up the kitchen table? What are your thoughts?

I posted table but then realized that I use mine as more counter space if you don't need it then you can get rid of it. The couch may get very dirty in a kitchen unless away from working area.

I would get a leather or faux leather one for it to be easily wipeable, but yeah its would be more of a chill area.

Even a wipeable couch will absorb cooking smells and grease. IMHO some things just don't belong in a kitchen. A very large kitchen with a space that's away from the cooking and eating area might be able to handle a couch. I personally wouldn't but ,of course, you do whatever you feel will serve you best.

I got rid of my kitchen table so we can fit a piano for dh. We just use the dining room table full time for breakfast, lunch and supper. The piano has brought so much joy and calm into our home! Do what works for you! If you feel the couch will bring a more peaceful and family oriented vibe go for it.

I have a loveseat in my kitchen instead of a table. Also have stools like you. The dinette area is small and I didn’t want to clutter it with a table.

I have an open concept house so the couch is very close to the open kitchen. I don’t find that it smells or that it’s an issue at all.

Op I’d go for it and get a couch.

My family room is right off the kitchen and the couch there doesn’t smell at all. It’s basically a few steps from the loveseat in my kitchen so I don’t see the difference.

I have a cute loveseat in my kitchen it's right by a window. My family loves it . It does get dirty sometimes but there's no smell at all and I got a little green machine to clean it ... Soon...lol. it's not noticably dirty though bec it has a pattern on it.we love to sit in the kitchen and look out the window in the morning I also feed my baby by sitting on it while he's in the high chair facing me

My kitchen is pretty small so I don’t have room for either but I ended up making it a little play area with some buckets and toys so the kids can play by my feet while I cook. Not sure what your kids ages are if this makes sense for you. Otherwise I would keep table.

2 of my siblings have a couch in the dinette area while I think it's an interesting idea they absolutely love it. They would never give it up. They have room for a couch in the living room/dining room area but they both keep it the dinette area instead.

I would definitely choose table. My kids play at the table all the time even with matchbox cars etc. I have an upholstered very comfy chair so it's like the best of both.

Do your kids have a place to do their hw? Or if they're too young, will they? Bc a kitchen table serves this purpose very well.

Usually homework is done at the barstools unless they need more room to spread out. I wouldn't say the table is never being used butt sometimes it just feels like it's wasted space. It has definitely served us very well many times.

I love it. We use the dining room table when we need a table.
