My son's bar mitzvah is during the 3 weeks. He wants the "shabbos portion" on the actual weekend--which logistically makes a lot of sense. It's right BEFORE boys go to camp and I go back to work in August (vs being off in July) so not sure how I'd pull something else off.
For my eldest I made a slideshow and a weekday bo-bayom seuda
My 2nd's birthday will be Thursday night where tzeis in July is close to 11pm. Which means Shabbos will also be around 11pm. When to show a slideshow? Use acapella for the slideshow?
I've suggested that he learn something in order to make a siyum in August but will it be "anticlimactic" to show a slideshow then?

Not at all. When you have a summer birthday my experience from just finishing the bar mitzvahs with my oldest kid is that its fairly common to make a siyum so its a seudas mitzvah when they come home from camp. Some of his friends did a bo bayom at camp too but they want to celebrate with their class.

So in his case, I believe his "Shabbos" falls out right before camp starts, so his friends will be there.
I find where we live MORE people go away during "Bein Hazmanim" so finding a time when his friends will come is more challenging.

My son had three bar mitzvahs the week school started from boys who had summer birthdays. I was told by friends its pretty common. One was a MM that ended at 11pm which I thought was kind of obnoxious but it let the class celebrate together.
