Someone gifted me something very large and expensive. I would like to return a thank you with a gift, any ideas?
I was thinking along the lines of a gift card but it would have to be something very nice or high end. Or maybe something sentimental, like getting her family portrait painted…
Anyone have any ideas? New York area

For what occasion did you receive the gift? Just wondering why you feel you must reciprocate with a gift just because you received one…

It was a gift that was above and beyond all expectations. I don’t want to specify the occasion, but it’s definitely extremely generous (think multiple thousands of dollars). And my giving back a gift is a way of saying thank you.
In this circumstance it would be appropriate to return a gift. But it needs to be meaningful and express true appreciation.
