Please tell me which one you have.
Would like to spend under $1,000 if possible for a good dishwasher

Most of them say not to, they do a better job if they detect the food on it.

I have a whirlpool, I don't rinse. Sometimes I'll have a fork come out dirty but overall it's not an issue.
I wash pots in it too.
Mine looks like this but I'm not sure if it's this specific model

Don't rinse. The oil residue actually makes the machine work harder and clean the dishes better with today's technology.
But if there are pieces still stuck on, wipe them off or rinse them to soften so they come off ahead of time, because those often stay stuck if they've already had a chance to dry before the machine starts.

All of you who don't wash your dishes before dishwasher, does that apply also to glasses, silverware, plastic containers, etc.? My dishes tend to come out okay when they go in dirty but silverware will have stuck on stuff if they went in dirty. And plastic containers remain greasy. I have a Bosch.

Cheap old dishwasher
I never leave big food pieces but yeah most of my plates and pots are not cleaned isn’t that the point works well but needs frequent cleaning inside the machine

Yes, yes, and yes. I don’t rinse anything. Sometimes a handful of things will need to be rewashed, but usually not. I have a Bosch and a fisher-paykel. (My husband sells appliances)
