Or do you automatically give to all of them? I find myself not giving to certain collectors if something about them strikes me in a certain way…

Some I've simply said no to based on how they make me feel. Anyone aggressive, hard no. In my face? No. Pushing into my home? No. One woman wouldn't leave my car alone. She put her bags on the hood and kept trying to get me to open the window. That was a definite no. Don't be rude or entitled. Ask and move on. Take what you get without being rude as well. I gave my only cash to one person and it was a $5 and this man called me a bunch of names, from cheap to fake, for not giving more. Oh, he takes zelle so how dare I not immediately send more money? I was so shocked. I asked for my $5 back and left. Giving tzedakah is something I do very privately and generously. I help pay off so many tuitions and food bills for strangers but it's completely private. If approached, I truly use a grain of salt because of how pushy People have gotten recently. It puts me on edge. Maybe this is just my experience but it feels safer to give through vetted channels and be sure the money is going where I intend it.

I dont open my door. Ever. I say "I have no cash at home".
Also in my yishuv, the rav has to give an ishur for someone to go around collecting.

But I’m referring also to people who stand outside the supermarket. Sometimes something about their look makes me wary about how legit they are…

There as well. I have no idea what they really will use the money for.
I never hve cash on me at the supermarket anyway, so I just use the same line.

The ones holding the placards, written in broken english, that they have 3-4 kids cannot pay rent.
Like then if you are outside begging, who is watching your children??
