Different places have different Chanukah foods, but this is what I know about. There’s always other.

For me, potato latkes with shredded potatoes and no topping is neccesary. Smile

I really like fritlech. It's something that I only eat during Chanukah.
The latkes/kigelech are a pesach food to me.

My mothers dairy caramel donuts. You can’t compare eating them when they’re hot vs a few hours later. I look forward to them all year!

Latkes of course with apple sauce.

I don't eat fried food that frequently so these are a very special treat.

I also can so vividly picture my mother standing in front of the stove like a short order cook piling the latkes on our plates straight from the stove - our kitchen was small so she just had to swivel to reach the table. Very Happy

This was before the Cuisinart so that everything was done on the box grater. My Bubbe used to joke that her latkes tasted so good because of the blood from the inevitable scrapes on her finger. Very Happy

I don't know if it is my mind playing tricks on me but when my mother started making latkes with a Cuisinart years later, they just didn't taste as good. Maybe the consistency of the potatoes was different.

I love white chocolate gelt dipped in my morning latte. Sure, any white chocolate during the year would do it, but I do this every chanuka for a special treat

My favorites are custard doughnuts and latkes.
I don't handle fried food very well so I came up with a lighter version.
I add shredded zucchini and I use alot less oil.

I still prefer latkes, but homemade donuts right out of the oil are amazing. Puts all those fancy, expensive things in the bakeries to shame. I have a 2 ingredient donut recipe (not counting the oil). Could not be easier.

I have always been a latke girl, but this year I decided that sfinge straight out of the pan sprinkled with sugar is number one. Donuts I can take or leave.
