There’s no Halacha about setting up whatsoever. It makes for a cute song though.

The setting up part is just a song. Set up the candles however you want but right newest to oldest, left to right.

It's hard to give a source for something that doesn't exist 😉
It's like trying to source in Shulchan Aruch a halacha that says mishloach manos can be 2 items of the same bracha. It's a myth/misunderstanding that they can't be, but the wording in halacha doesn't say they can be because that was a mistaken thought, and not something that needed to be specifically said is ok. I hope I made sense here 🙂
