Maybe try boiling water with foil and baking soda? I think that’s what it is. And then scrub with a soft cloth. If it’s really stubborn leave it in the boiling water for longer.

I suspect that the professional polish is actually removing a thin layer of silver containing the blemish and revealing the healthy silver beneath, rather like sanding a floor to remove scratches.

Sometimes I find that these spots need strong rubbing with the silver polish- aka elbow grease, over and over.
