All these fancy donuts in all these bakeries, with so many fillings and flavors and toppings, and special little pipettes filled with syrups, etc. etc. etc. They are beautiful and smell great. And are always disappointing.

Seriously, I can't be the only one. Anyone else feel the same? They are so overdone, so obnoxiously sweet, and really nothing special. And cost a fortune too.

To me the best donuts are simple ones fried at home. Fresh out of the oil. Plain, or with a light drizzle of glaze or a light dusting of cinnamon sugar.

Am I the only one who feels this way? I am so sick of the hype. I spent $30 on 5 donuts for my family to sample tonight cause I knew I wouldn't have time to make them (or latkes for that matter) tonight. So much drama when the box was opened. But each one ultimately a big MEHHH.

Same with most donuts! I still think most of sesame donuts are delicious to sample.

Yah I'm not into the fancy shmancy ones, I will always gravitate towards the boston cream pie donuts

Sesame donuts are delicious but they’re way too much for one person to eat the whole thing. Dh usually buys a few flavors which we cut into pieces and get to taste all of them. Yum 😋

Definitely not worth the price of the fancy donuts. Personally I think they all taste awful besides taam eden.
Regular donuts cost enough anyway this year. We had good old choc with sprinkle and custard nothing left

I don’t like all the fancy donuts. Some of them are just a shot at creating something original but are really gross. At the same time, some of them are heavenly and definitely worth the hype in my opinion

Agreed. Honestly, the best store donuts are the custard donuts with white icing from Goldberg s grocery that cost 50 cents when I was a child

Always always plain. Never a filling or a piping or a swirl. Maybe if I’m feeling kind of fancy I’ll allow a confection sugar snowflake

Donuts are gross. Oily fried dough that makes you feel heavy.

What I can’t understand is the Fleishig donuts. Call it a burger, it’s not a donut if it has meat in it.

What are sesame donuts?
I really want to try a hava java donut. I've never had a fancy shmancy donut before.

I don't like filled doughnuts.
Plain glazed is fine
I make the zepolle recipe from here which is just dusted with confectioners sugar and it's so moist inside (and has protein I guess lol) and I can eat too much of that easily...

It’s very exciting for the kids. I love to give them Chanukah memories. I didn’t get any donuts until Chanukah actually started so it stays special. Stores get them in weeks before but they’re only good fresh so I think people are sick of them by the time it’s actually Chanukah.

I agree about fancy shmancy doughnuts but I really like jelly filled ones. Just give me one of those. Keep all the other flavors.

Well I like the custardy filling, so there! I would eat the filling all by itself, with a spoon, but that wouldn't be yotze the minhag.

You do know that even latkes aren't a must. All you really need is any food cooked in oil. I could easily and happily make do with fried onions or garlic oven roasted in oil. (Those near and dear to me might be less appreciative.)

That said, I'll cheerfully consume all the doughnuts you all claim to despise (the ladies do protest too much, methinks, or else why are so many doughnuts being sold?) Or I would if my dr. hadn't ordered me to lose 50 lbs. pronto.
