Debating with a few of my friends whether or not seminary is something that is extremely beneficial for girls. They say it’s too much $ and I agree but I think the experience stays with them a lifetime. They say it fades after a while and totally not necessary.

I haven’t sent my daughters yet, but I can say for myself I still feel the effects. In a subtle way. It’s been over 15 years.

For yrs after seminary I thought not. But then I had some struggles in my life and reconnected with an old teacher. Had I not gone to seminary I never would have had that opportunity for guidance

Mine came home with a deep love of EY, a desire to be there, and a feeling that Israel is home. I want them to make Aliya, as I feel the future of the Jewish people is there and not in the US. Religiously, they are the same as before they left, and after 3 years at a secular university, living on campus, they are still the same frum- they are not ones to easily be swayed or give in to peer pressure, so they didn’t “frum out” in seminary or become less frum in college. These are girls who knew who they were before they went. (No, they are not super fun or popular, but they are great solid girls)
They definitely gained skills, knowledge and made great friends.
They know way more about shmitta and different haskachas than I will ever comprehend. They had exposure to different communities in Israel and had a wealth of experiences, in regards to history, Torah, chessed, and nature.
Regarding the price tag, they got a full year of college credit, and it’s slightly less expensive than secular college, so financial I came out slightly ahead, although that was not a factor in their decision. Honestly, B”H I’m in the financial position where if they didn’t get credit, we would have made it work anyway, as I am in the category of I can afford Shabbos food and will never be able to retire.

I went to seminary 25 years ago and it still positively affects my life every day. It changed my life for the better.
But I have many friends who it didn't really make a difference for. I wouldn't make a blanket statement that every girl needs to go.

Honestly, both of you are completely right.

Its totally not necessary. It's a pure luxury. Its a luxury that has meaningful short term and long term benefits.

I was there 24 years ago. The actual learning part did nothing for me but it's an experience I can't forget. The part of living in eretz yisroel. Being in a dorm with girls was alot of fun and getting to know and tour eretz yisroel was amazing. I still consider it one of best years of my life. I guess there was also a ruchniyus part to it...going to kosel, walking streets of old city, going to kivrei tzadikim etc
