Every week the same
Attacking, anger, blame
Scars like stars -- my heart
absorbs the arrows with my name.
Convenient, isn't it
A wife, a scapegoat, sits
Across the table so you're able
To dump your junk and grit.
The children can join, too
All discontent they spew
Discipline? Why, that's a sin
Gang up, it's fun to do.
I gave up long ago
For peace, though icy cold
But this? Too hot. And peace it's not
My heart begins to fold.
I'm here, but all alone
In this home I call my own
Surrounded by so many eyes
None softer than a stone.
I'm swallowed by the maw
Of loneliness so raw
I know it well. Tales I could tell
Thought I'd escape its claw.
Who are these ones I bore?
Thought I could change the score
Is life a joke? I'm left to croak
To watch, again
From outside the door.

I think it's a pattern that started in childhood
