Mother puts Doona into back seat facing any which way just to get baby out of the cold, planning on turning it rear facing and strapping it in.

Then she gets an urgent phone call from her kid's teacher, or someone honks at her to get out of the space, or while she's turning on the car so it warms up or loading groceries into the trunk she gets flustered or distracted, and she starts driving, forgetting that she never strapped in the baby.

I love that you want to give benefit of doubt. But parents have to do better. Don't take phone calls when putting baby in the car. Create a habit of having a checklist every time you start the car. Whatever it takes. This is crazy dangerous.

And to OP, yes, of course people care. They are tired. They are busy. They are distracted. None of these are good enough excuses though.

Are you sure it was a doona? There are a lot of car seat brands now that are multi directional and can turn sideways

Those turn to make it easier to get the kid in and out, you don't ride that way.

Unfortunately so many ppl are negligent with their children’s car safety. I try not to think about it because I get really scared for them. They don’t listen when I tell them how dangerous it is they only care how convenient it is for them
I do believe they love and care about their kids and this is them acting selfishly

I've seen worse. I saw a woman put a newborn baby on her lap and get into the front seat of a car. Some people just do not care about car seat safety. They don't see it as an issue, they think it's not a big deal.

OP next time posts on here that she wants to start a G'mach, but hasn't got spare money but plenty spare time, maybe suggest she stands at crosswalks & traffic-lights and have anyone with an unsafe kid in the car pull over. Give them a lecture.

Go on OP, save the world!

Ah, so refreshing every time we see the DLKZ Malachim…

I think as a society we have become conditioned to defend the accused and the one in the unfavorable position that women can’t seem to admit that having an baby in a sideways doona in a moving car is inexcusable.
In typical imamother fashion, imas will tell you to mind your own business, dream up far fetched excuses, bend over backwards to exonerate the mom- before they will ever just say, yeah you’re right, that’s crazy and unacceptable.
So strange that people don’t want to admit the mother made a mistake.

Like I said, it’s the DLKZ squad here to make the OP feel like a monster as they teach the lesson of the virtues of being DLJZ in any and every situation. Now that’s a mitzvah.

Well someone picked up a baby from my playgroup and she didn't have a car seat for her so she just put her in the car with no seat... She wasn't the regular pickup person and she thought baby came to morah with her doona...

Don't know what I should have done witnessing this?

My sister in law has a playgroup and I can tell u without a doubt that she would not have sent the kid with the lady. She would’ve told her to go get a car seat and come back

I’d have said call someone to borrow because you can’t leave with her like this.

I have one of those, and I once forgot to turn it. I was horrified when I realized, my baby was strapped in sideways.

Is anyone ever concerned about sending kids on schoolbus without seatbelts?

It’s not as risky based on the shape and the way children would fall. But that’s assuming they are sitting on the seats and not in the aisle or hanging out windows and standing on seats.

I am a safety freak and really careful with car seats. I once put car seat on the back seat, buckled baby in and started driving. I was on the highway when I realised that the base was not in the car and the car seat was not buckled in! I was horrified and had to find a safe place to stop and buckle it, but this story is true and happened to someone that really cares.
Since then I have a strict rule to never take out the car seat base from the car, even if it means one less seat by carpool

My family members breastfeed their babies out of great rachmunos while the car is in motion.

That is not rachmanos, that is neglect! Pull over and feed that kid!

When my kids start school they are petrified they will fall off the seat as they are used to being tucked in their cars eats.

But really the seats are designed with the most safety features possible. Busses are considered the safest vehicles on the road. Only Hashem can protect us 100%.
