If a school takes vouchers in Baltimore do the parents end up not having to pay tuition? Someone told me it pays enough for school/camp even with older kids to cover full tuition? Is that true?

I didn’t know that there are vouchers. Everyone qualifies?

I don't qualify, so I am not talking first hand.

To start not all schools in Baltimore take vouchers.

But I heard if you get full voucher value + boost it covers most of tuition but only until about 4th grade for school and only until I think 13 for camp.

Nope. It's income based. And also only until a certain age.

I’m curious to the answer. We got a decent discount but not to pay everything. We don’t qualify for boost though.

My question is does it mean that the school will give us less of a tuition discount since we are getting vouchers? Because things are so tight for us I was excited to get the vouchers but if they’re just going to raise our tuition by that much next year (I mean our discounted tuition amount we will owe) then it’s not going to help.

TA school/camp doesn’t take them do they?

The vouchers only can be used until 4th grade or at that time school starts being more expensive or the amount they give you for the vouchers is less?

I may be wrong, but Torahs Simcha might be the only boys school that takes them.
Anyone have more accurate information?

Apparently toras simcha, bais yaakov and bnos take it. Ta and ti do not. Some of the camps do as well. It seems if you qualify for free hot lunch you would qualify for this. The amount the program gives doesn't seem to always make sense some get more some less . Both parents have to be working/in college/volunteering in some capacity. From my understanding the program covers hours of childcare that aren't offered by public school hours so....preschool and after 3 pm that our kids are in school are considered aftercare. What I heard is the reimbursement is enough to cover full cost of tuition for many families. Is that true?

I don’t think Bnos takes vouchers. TA definitely doesn’t. I think TI does, but I’m. It 100% sure. (Haven’t had boys in TI for a few years)

Bnos does not take vouchers as of yet. They sent an email to the parent body that they are trying to get the daycare approved for vouchers. But nothing yet.

Does anyone know the answer to if this has an effect on how much of a tuition discount the schools will give if a family is receiving vouchers.
I guess I’ll find out in a few months…

It sounded like people who got the vouchers had the whole amount covered and didn't need breaks

My friend pays 0 tuition for her 5 kids. The older three are in BY where she teaches and the younger two are in a school her husband teaches in. I think she pays 0 bc of the teacher discount + the vouchers. She told me their income is under 120k but I don’t know the exact amount.

Oh we only get like half of our discounted amount covered I think. If I understand correctly how much we are getting.

If you're a teacher the teacher discount + ccs vouchers end up being full tuition assuming you are and your husband are working long enough hours to get a lot of money from ccs.

Toras Simcha is the only boys school that takes voucher.
Bais Yaakov is the only girls school that take vouchers.
There are a few daycares that take vouchers. The is also an option for informal care vouchers, but I do not understand how that works.

Vouchers just decided a new rule that if you do not use your voucher for more than (I think) 10 days (can't rem exactly) then you need to reapply from scratch which is a pain. So you need to send to a vouchered daycamp in that case.

Daycamps that take vouchers:
Bais Yaakov (girls)
Happy feet (daycare ages)
Lemaaleh (boys)
Daycares that run through the summer-Montessori, Gan Ruti, Darchei Noam etc
I would love to know if there are other camps

The amount helps the school cover the break they are giving you. It is not in addition to your break. Obviously, voucher + what you pay will not exceed full tuition. But if financial committee feels you can pay $x and then you also qualify for vouchers, that does not bring down your obligation. It is just you being decent about helping the school fund the gap.

Do you know this for fact? I get a tuition break because I work for the school and then my vouchers go no top of that (not next to that) voucher is as if it is my bank account paying tuition, why should it be any different?

Cheder Chabad also accepts vouchers. I think it covers for many ppl and as mentioned, it's not to help cover the gap but a way for you to bring in money you owe.

So that stinks then. At least this year we got a little bit of a break.

So if camp ends more than 10 days before schools starts we have to re-apply like new?

Good question! I still can't rem how many days, but I assume if you are enrolled in a daycare/school that continues into the summer then it is simply days the daycare is closed? I believe you can overide it with a plane ticket reservation to prove travel or a drs. note to prove illness as a reason for non-attendance. I am going to try to find the letter Bais Yaakov sent out
