I don't know how to embed a video but this was discussed at the aguda convention.
Here is a link to the video.
If you start at about the 4:41 mark you'll hear a breakdown of how someone earning as much as $300k can have a hard time paying tuition. https://torahanytime.com/lectures/336253
I believe that the answer starts with yeshivas opening their books. Once we have that we can then delve into where they're bleeding, how to stop it and then set REALISTIC tuition goals.
I have one graduating HS and one starting kindergarten. Tuition has more than doubled for the same school in the 12 year span from what I was paying for the older one to what I'll be paying for the younger one. That is not normal.
I am paying for playgroup now and somehow that cost hasn't doubled. It's definitely gone up from what I paid for the oldest but not doubled.
Yes, prices went up across the board. But the cost of most thing did not double in 12 years. Gone up some, yes. Doubled? No.
And my salary certainly hasn't doubled. So where is all the money going? The math isn't adding up.

I payed 350 for playgroup by my 10 year old, I'm paying 725 for my current playgroup child. The prices are insane.
And yes playgroup comes before school tuition cuz playgroup will kick my kid out if I don't pay. The school won't take such critical action as long as I keep paying towards the cause

I agree that schools must open their books and be more transparent, especially privately owned schools. My daughters' tuition has doubled in the past THREE YEARS. It's absurd.

Deleted misinformation
Rebbeim are getting $140k a year plus extras for making simchas!
My husband and I net close to that and don't get any extras for simchas.
There in lies the issue. The expectation that rebbeim need to earn more than the average person.
Teachers working 3 hours a day making $50k?
His numbers for living expenses make sense. His salaries and expectations are astronomical.

Well, this is why the schools end up taking drastic measures. If they dont kick out for nonpayment, theyre the last to get paid.

Same here…
And my kids’ schools do have open books and no one is making big money off tuition and still there is a quiet a deficit that needs to be fundraised by board members who are not on payroll and make no money off any of this.

In the clip that's what he says.
They pay about $100k then they have a kollel in the afternoon for the rebbeim that pays & they tutor. By the time they're done they're making about $140k
He says that's number. I didn't make it up

Does that include any tuitions?
My bil is getting paid 75k 10 years experience, 2 free boys tuitions. 2 girls tuitions at the sister school pretax.
So his paycheck says 65k but that includes the value of 4 tuitions.

Honestly my playgroup prices have more than doubled. My tuition has gone up but not doubled. I paid for my 11 and 13-year-old $350 a month from 9:00 to 4:00 for playgroup. I am paying now $800 a month from 9:00 to 3:00. If I want until 4:00, it's almost $1,000. This is a cheap playgroup in an in-town community
My children's tuitions years ago more than $9000 to $10,000 range. Now they're 11 and 12. I have one child in another school, and that's the only school I get a break. I pay $18,000 instead of $24,000..... It is not a special at school. It is insane. It's a very small school and a tuition is crazy.
I also don't believe that 99% of parents are paying more than $10,000 honestly.

No. He says they don't pay tuition. So add that to the salary and the rebbeim, at least the ones he's paying, are making out better than most of the community. Go figure
Watch the clip. You can watch it on 2x speed and still get all the details.
It's mind boggling

And by the way, I'm in the finance business. We see people salaries all the time. The teachers and rebbeim are not making too badly. They just LOVE to complain.

Just fyi, he is not the administrator of the school and is wealthy in his own right. He is head of the board and I doubt he even gets paid for all that he does.

I was asking about those who say that Rebbeim in their neighborhood get "only" 80k.
80k is not so great. But let's remember we're talking about only 10 or 11 months and they can and do work in camps.
But if they're also making 4 free tuitions within that 80k, that raises their base salary to 110k and that is not bad for a 30 hour week that gives off all yomim tovim and is only 10-11 months.

I just want to point out, a Rebbi with smicha is a professional with a degree probably equivalent to a master's, and is probably entitled to expect a reasonable salary. I would not say 140k is ridiculously high for an expert with years of experience.

In some communities, pretty much everyone has semicha. That doesn't mean that everyone is entitled to a minimum salary.

Where are rebbeim making 140 k???
My DH is making 48 k and that is considered decent/hugging end for a new rebbi.

No free tuitions included. Camp is a joke it pays nothing. 42 hour work week.

Rebbeim in my boys’ school are not making 80 or 140 k. They are making 45-55 k for hard work.
