Does your child’s class chip in to give a group gift for the teachers for chanuka?
If yes, does that take the place of a private tip?

Well two of my kids schools sent home notes demanding that every parent send in a monetary gift with a thank you note, and that we are not allowed to do a collective class gift because then the teachers end up with less money...
I'm so tempted to b'davka not send just because of this disgusting note
The third school I send to does to a collective gift which I chipped in for
