In your first and last examples - Yosef is the last name, not the actual name

Parents have the ruach hakodesh. That's the concept.
Whether you choose a relative, someone else, or just a name you love, make sure it's a name your kid can live with. Wishing you nachas!

If someone is naming a child instead of a parent or close relative, it may be against the rules of kibbud av v'em if this is a done thing in your community. Please consult a Rav on this matter.

If it’s your minhag to give family names, don’t change it.
Your ancestors were moser nefesh for Yiddishkeit. Through their sweat, tefillos and tears, you are here today. Honor them and give their names.

I feel blessed to know the names. So many people don't.
Some people have the minhag to use the most recent available names. But I would say, if you know the names, go back as far as you can and see if there's one that grabs you.

I would only use the name if I felt a kesher. A few people I know used rebbetzin kanievski's name because they met her while in seminary and she made an impression. My daughter has several batshevas in her grade and many in her school. I dont see how it's any different from a relative. You should of course only give a child a name you like. And he or she will like.

My kids had already given most of the elter bubbies and zaidies. My SIL decided to name for my husband's Rosh Yeshiva who had been niftar recently. We found it very touching.
Usually people do name for s/o they had a connection with.

In the Chassidish community it’s very common to name after grandparents/relatives and also very common if a Rebbe is niftar for the Chassidim to name their kid after him. (I named after a Rebbe, I did like the name though)

There is no halacha brought down in the gemarah, the tur or shulchan aruch, Mishna berura, or rishonim that one must name their child after their ancestors.
If there's an obvious disrespect to the memory of a parent caused by not using the name, a eitza/shaila should be asked from a rav.
But you can't make up halacha.

Nope. Please don’t make up Halacha. Grandparents have zero rights to names. It’s literally only up to the parents halachically. And kibud av v’eim is a very specific mitzvah it’s not an umbrella to just control your children.
