Thank you for all this research! Wow. I have my work cut out for me tomorrow.

Mainly I'm confused about the connection between walking on eggshells and pregnancy. The danger would ostensibly be miscarriage. But based on these source, it seems that the danger is tzaraas.

If OP isn't PKL, I think the two of them should meet - they'd hit it off immediately!

For sure certified PKL!
Thank you!
I know of a sakana for a pregnant woman not to step of any cut nails that may have fallen onto the floor. That's what I know about. Maybe cuz it's the same consistency? LOL.

Thank you again for sharing with us! We are always the winner when you share your stuff with us!

Thank you ShishKabob! A compliment from you is worth a lot:)

Regarding the cut nails, from what I understand, there is a ruach ra'ah attached to the fingernails, and that's what makes it dangerous to step on. That's why we wash negel Vassar in the morning, because the ruach ra'ah we have from sleep leaves through our fingers. At least that's how I remember it.

I have no clue for you about the source of your grandparentsโ€™ minhag, but I loved reading about your relationship with your husbandโ€™s Bubby & Zeidy. I know your intention was to solve the mystery but the love and respect came through in every word. We need to keep moving forward into our future but keeping our hearts and thoughts rooted in the past through our attachment to the amazing people who got us this far, thatโ€™s what itโ€™s all about.

I've heard another explanation, that it's from mius, that she may be disgusted by it.

Which fits with the eggshells I guess...?

I had a similar story about giving fish to a baby. I couldnโ€™t find a source

What was the outcome of the story? Is it ok to give fish to a baby? Just had my sister over for shabbos and she was watching me feed my baby gefilte fish and told me it's not ok - but I never heard that before!

I'm pretty sure the not giving fish to a baby is sakanah, because there may be a bone in it.
Gefilte fish should be fine.

Thanks for your warm words and beautiful insight.
My husband's grandparents were exceptionally special people, and I guess my feelings for them came through with this story.

Yes, that makes sense.
I found another reason on OU Torah.
(The reason you mentioned is in the Hebrew part.):

The Beer Heitiv (260:2) cites an interesting explanation as to why stepping on nails can be harmful to pregnant women. He explains that when Adam and Chava before they sinned were covered in a hard nail-like membrane. After Chava caused Adam to sin the nail rescinded and now only covers the ends of our toes and fingers. Since Chava caused the nails to become removed from the body, the nails are forever dangerous to pregnant women.

Maybe they conflated nails with eggshells.

It is a known that a pregnant women shouldn't step on nails therefore we are careful with disposing of it.

Maybe this was the confusion?
Sorry if it was mentioned already. I didn't read the entire thread but had to come in if its a PKL thread.

Its adorable that they had you over btw.

Oops I see it was actually mentioned already and with the source!

Thanks for stepping in PKL. And let us know how your potatoe kugels are coming along these days.
