I'm trying to send a package to my seminary daughter in Israel and I'm not sure I understand what to do. On Shein, it's asking for a national ID number-is that her passport number? I tried typing that in and the first digit is a letter, maybe that's why it won't accept it. Also, I tried putting in her cellphone number and it's not accepting it, the site tells me it needs to start with 05. So I tried the seminary's number but that starts with 02 so that's not acceptable either, the site won't let me progress to the payment page. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Also ,I'd really appreciate knowing if anyone has any site that they found easy to work with regarding sending packages to Israel, thank you!

it's a teudat zehut
I'm not sure what you can do other than asking someone you know in Israel for their number (maybe you can ask the seminary?)
before I got on national insurance I didn't have a number and someone just let me use theirs for the un-important stuff like this
it doesn't really matter which number you write

Regarding the 05 nr that should be her mobile phone. 02 is for a landline .
So if you call her on +972544365999 then you should put in 0544365999
(Example nr)

You can try leaving out any letters on her passport, and putting a 9 at the beginning. That's the accepted code for foreign residents.

I don't know about Shein, but amazon has an option to say whether it is passport or ID number, which is much easier for tourists.

The ID number is meant to be security, that the recipient shows their ID before receiving the package, to make sure it gets to the right person. (I don't think I've ever actually done this.)

The phone number won't be much help, since she probably has a kosher phone, but otherwise she would get text messages about the progress of the parcel. They might also call her when they come to deliver it.

I sent my daughter a package from Temu and it was very easy. It came in about 2 weeks. Driver called her phone the day of delivery and she was even able to switch delivery to the school building since it was in the morning and she was in class. She just gave her phone to the secretary the field the call and the secretary met the driver and got the package. Amazon is very easy also to send packages to Israel but it has to be more than $45 and less than $75 (approximately) to avoid import tariffs and to get free shipping. Be aware that not everything ships free to Israel or ships there at all. You need to change your default address on Amazon to an Israeli address so you can see what ships there free with the 45-dollar minimum. Have not tried shipping a shein package but maybe somebody else can weigh in as to what they did.

I don't understand. Why would anybody be asking for passport # or any other kind of ID? I don't have much experience with shipping to Israel, but I have sent my cousins in Jerusalem small packages a couple of times with just their address. Nothing more. It arrived fine.

With a store they ask for ID so if it needs tax payment it has an id it is attached to.

As well your relatives all have to show their ID when fetching packages, regardless of it says the id number on the package.

As I said above, I've never actually been asked for my teudat zehut when receiving a parcel. Since I'm normally at work, when they call me, I just tell them to leave it by the door, and I've never had a problem with that. Still that's the law, if anyone really wants to enforce it, and the companies have to work with that.

Free shipping kicks in at $49, not $45.

Taxes kick in at $75.

Be careful about the free delivery, and double check before you pay. There is no rhyme or reason that I've ever been able to discern about what is eligible for free shipping and what isn't. Especially with clothing, one size or colour might be free shipping, and the same item in a different size or colour isn't. If you leave something in your amazon cart for a few days, it might suddenly not be eligible for free shipping any more. Then, if you come back a week later, it might be free shipping again. It can change in an instant.

Most people learn to be quite skilful at putting together an order that costs between $49 - $75!

At the door delivery they don't ask.
Doar Israel pick up they are very strict with having the right ID or having ipur hakoach filled in and their ID if fetching for someone else.
They really didn't want me to fetch a parcel with DHs name as the first names weren't the same. Some will let and say next time you can't.

As a side note for Israelis. If you put your family name as both first name and family name e.g. Cohen Cohen they let anyone with the family name Cohen fetch it.
