Being that , that’s clearly not the case I didn’t find the quote humorous. But I’m glad I could bring a chuckle and a smile to your day 👍 |
Mommy3b2c, you’re not going to get through to people who are enjoying the fact that they think they “caught” you. Anyone who is on here for a bit of time knows you are the last person to teach your kids that all non Jews are bad. My parents are the furthest thing from racist and when my brother was little my mom took him somewhere and there was a black man on line and he turned to my mom and said, in a very loud voice, “They let black people in here??”
My mom wanted to die. And no, it didn’t come from “somewhere” other than his very young and very innocent brain. It happens.

Whoa, the bullying of Mommy3b2c has got to stop. Talk about being deliberately obtuse.
When my kid was around three, they suddenly became very afraid of walking along the main road on Shabbos. After digging, I realized that they put together that all of the drivers must be g-yim because they didn’t keep Shabbos! And G-yim are scary! They wanted to kill the News in the Chanuka story! They wanted to kill the Jews in the Purim story! And in the Pesach story! I guess I don’t use the word [non jew] a lot because this child had no idea that the delivery guy, babysitter, cleaning lady, etc were also all “g-yim “. I think most Morahs for age 3 just use the generic and don’t bother with the Greeks, Persians, Egyptians, etc. but then it does cause some confusion.

Exactly! My theory proven correct again. When I realized that was the case, I told him that there are all kinds of g-yim And that our beloved housekeeper/nanny Is a [non jew] And his mind was blown. 🤯
Thanks for the backup 😀
I do get bullied a lot on here. But I also get lots of love and that’s what matters. Haters gonna hate. Oh well.

For those who want me to have a talk with my children-they are grown and know better now.
As to why they knew the kids were not jewish: Yes, I explained it to them. We had close neighbors who had jewish names, yet their mother was not jewish. I don't remember why they needed to know, but at the time, we felt it was important. And yes, my kids were allowed to play with them.
FYI, just last week a local Rabbi, who only moved in a few years ago, contacted me asking about one of the kids and if they were jewish. And it's not the first time I was asked either. It is important to know when someone is not jewish.

Imagine a non jewish kid asking you why you don't have horns as a jew. I mean come on. Be better than that and teach your kids better than that. It's a chillul hashem
And if you didn't teach him that someone did. Because kids aren't born racist and they don't view the world like that.
Who told him g-yim are bad???
To OPs question... no. Because we don't discuss other people in our home and we aren't judgmental. I think that goes a long way in parenting. Kids will say what they hear their parents say. If a kid tells you sth about politics, shows racism, s-xism.. you know what the parents say at home. |
Maybe one day you’ll eat humble pie. That’s not the way the world works. I have never in my life used the words shv**tze, shaygetz, etc nor do our kids even know who we vote for each election. We don’t talk about these things in front of them. Guess what? They still hear it elsewhere. I was appalled when I heard my teenage son casually referring to someone as a shaygetz and I gave it to him. Never did he hear that in our house. So easy to assume it’s the parents.

Based on the discussion they obviously weren’t black Jews because we were talking about my son being close with non Jews . Makes sense ? |
No. If we cannot tell by looking at the photo that those people are not Jews, why include the photo?
And I think it's creepy and a breach of privacy to share those photos with us.
That being said, kids pick up ideas from lots of places, not just parents.

Those people are perfectly happy to share their photos and I colored the faces of all
The children who’s parents don’t want their pictures shown .
And honestly im a bit confused about not being able to tell they aren’t Jewish . By that logic, do you believe one can never assume someone is not Jewish ?
I mean , generally when I see a group of black and Hispanic men with long hair , no yarmulkes, tattoos and earrings I would assume they are not Jewish . I don’t think that’s racist of me , that would just be my automatic assumption.

I couldn't tell that they were Hispanic non-Jews. They could have been Sfardi Jews.
Looks like a typical Israeli simcha.

I would think he got it from school where they learn about Paroah, Antiochus, Haman etc. The Jews are always the heroes of the story and the non-Jews are the bad guys. He was just trying to figure out if non jews always means bad guys. He didn’t make the connection to actual non-Jews that he knew. This is NOT at all similar to a kid saying that Jews have horns which is a specific idea someone had to have told him. Sheesh, I can’t believe people can be so ridiculous. |
Very likely you are correct. For this reason as a Morah, I refer to the characters as yevanim, mitzriem, Roman's ect. There is a popular storyteller that that refers to everyone as go y im, and in a very pronounced, hateful way. I think many children are picking it up from there. I don't let his cd's into my classroom.

Ok. But that is just being obtuse on purpose. You and Dr mom are both very intelligent and able to follow the context of the conversation. You both also know that the typical religious Ashkenazi bar mitzvah in America doesn’t look like the typical Sephardi or Mizrachi bar mitzvah in Israel .

But thats the point actually. There is such a wide range of typical.
And by the aay, ashkenazi bar or bat mitzvahs can and do also have jews of ll kinds, dati jews of all kinds
Not only sfardim have a whole aray of types of what dati looks like.

As I said before, you’re not going to win. When people want to keep arguing, they are going to. Anyone who lives in Brooklyn knows this is not what a typical bar mitzvah looks like. That is not denying the existence of Ethiopian or Yemenite Jews, it’s simply reality.
