I have a few boys and the cost of going to a barber is getting too much. We are regular jpf so don’t need a fancy haircut but like to leave a little bangs and also don’t know how to do sideburns and square back. Anyone have tips? I already tried YouTube but they don’t have frum style haircuts…

I started after my sons upsherin and every haircut is a little better than one before it. It’s a matter of practice. By the time he’s old enough to know the difference, I’ll be a pro. His haircuts always look good even if the back isn’t perfect. Bangs I cut with a scissors.

The only way we could help you is by making a video and emailing to you. So maybe someone will volunteer to do that?

I did once see a YouTube video of a Frum haircut. But it was in Hebrew. And it was very Frum, like not much fringe in front, very short, relatively thick peyos . I can try to find it.

If your children are a bit older, have them hold the payos as you slowly go around it.

Every once in a while, check to see if it got too big and adjust accordingly.

The rest of it is pretty simple, cut against the root towards the middle as you go around the head.

For the back, you can either finish as a square or more natural, depending on the preference.

It takes practice!

Lastly, the better the machine, the easier it is long-term. Invest in something good.

I have a peanut trimmer. First I use the 4 gaurd and do the whole back and top until and 2 inches before the bangs start. From there to the bangs I do 4 on an angle, so it's a little longer. Bangs I thin and then trim with scissors.

Peyos are really hard - still working on them! We leave a 1 cm strand to push behind ear. Super super tricky. I never really like how that comes out tbh

Not sure if this will help but I cut the front with a 6 or 7. Rest with a 2. But start with a 4 or 3. Clean the neck with no blade.

That is helpful. What do you do about the sideburns?
