You can guess, but you'd be wrong. (Too bad, we could use a new PKL story on Imamother already!)

Whatever you do, if someone contacts you that you owe them anything for these packages, do not pay, do not pay for return, do not drop them off somewhere for them

I once had a large delivery of furniture ordered to my name and address that I hadn’t ordered. I called the online store and they said scammers do this so they can then order gift cards to themselves and hope the credit card won’t flag the large orders since the actual card holder just used it for a large purchase… I was able to stop it in time but had huge boxes sitting around until they arranged for UPS to pick it up and it was disconcerting, to say the least.

Do you have any kids receiving remedial assistance (reading etc.) in school? We already had two times that a mysterious package arrived addressed to my daughter and I think maybe one of them was from simon & schuster, but I could be mistaken, and it turned out that the board of ed in the city I live in sent various educational books/games to the kids receiving services.
This was my first thought when I read your Op, but 23 packages sounds like a lot and seems more likely that there is a scam or mistake here...

There were kids that told Alexa to send them stuff from Amazon and their parents found out when it arrived.

OP, please satisfy our curiosity--what happened?!
(I one time got fraud notificies from a retailer and my credit card company at the same time about the large purchase on the retailer's website--somebody had ordered 23 Xmas trees to my house!. Fortunately, the store flagged the purchase and cancelled it, so I didn't have to deal with those being delivered to my house!)

Alas, I still have no updates on my 23 packages. UPS says they're on the truck out for delivery, and there are still another 1.5 hours until the end of the estimated delivery window.
My plan is to try to meet the UPS driver and see if the names on the packages are ours. If not, I'll refuse the delivery. Otherwise, I think I'll play it by ear.
