Friday night? During the day?
I usually wear sweats 🙈 but I was invited by a friend for Shabbat meals. I want to wear nice clothes but don’t want to overdo it.

I always dress nice. I wear a dress and flats and a matching hair wrap with jewelry. You could always wear a simple dress with some flats and jewelry, that’s safe

Its nice you want to do whats norm and common but considering you said a friend invited you I think the friend is looking forward to your company and will be happy to have you no matter what your wearing.
If you are concerned about dress conduct how about asking friend?
" I plan on wearing a nice dress with leggings is that cool with you?"
