I left my job so 6 months haha found new one after that
I have no idea how anyone goes back after a few weeks.

I usually take just 6 weeks. My last baby was difficult recovery and over Purim/Pesach so I took 8 weeks.

Im a playgroup Morah (I pay full taxes) but not eligible for any paid maternity plus I lose money by how much I pay my subs.
I take 6-8 weeks.
The parents start harassing me after 3 weeks that I should come back.

When I have birth a week before r"h, I told my boss I was going to take an extra week after simchas Torah. Jokes on me cuz my then 18 mo old came down w the flu right after yt 😡. I've never again take more than 6 weeks.

I am so glad I live in the UK where regular is so much longer!
Legally you get 9 months, although it's not fully paid so most people go back sooner, average 4/5 months. And if 9 months isn't long enough, they need to legally hold your job for you for another 3 months without pay.

I work in a NYC hospital. We first need to use up all that’s left of our PTO (any sick days, vacation, holidays that accrued which can be a lot), then disability for 6 weeks which pays very little, then 12 weeks paid family leave which is 66% of your salary capped at a certain amount. After that you can take up to one year leave but won’t be paid.

Took six weeks by both of my kids. By my second kid my six weeks ended right before Succos, and was entitled to 8 weeks because of a c section. I was planning to take 8 but my boss really pressured me to come back and paid me extra because they were so desperate. I am working at a new place now and was excited when they told me that 8-9 weeks is more the norm of what they expect.

So grateful to live in California. We get disability from 36w pregnant until 6w postpartum (for a vaginal delivery), then an additional 12w of paid bonding leave. In all, I’ve taken 22-24 weeks with each baby with at least some pay, but I take a few extra weeks unpaid so I can wait until my baby is 6 months old and eating some solids by the time I go back.

I took 5 months- 3 months of paid family leave plus 2 months of furlough then I went back to work.

Nj gets this too just most ppl don’t take it…

I live here too but my job is not required to follow this and we dont pay into the system. They held my job but zero disability or paid family leave . I saved my sick and vacation leave and took 8 weeks unpaid (besides whatever was left of sick/vacation).

For all those who take 4+ months, im curious
Are you ok if your child's teacher, playgroup Morah, babysitter, therapist, OT, PT, Speech, etc take off 4-6 months.
Do you complain?

Self-employed, those who work in very small companies don't get this privilege.
Even if the job gets held, most only get paid a fraction and can't afford to take months and months of unpaid leave.
