Yes
My child is in 12th grade.
We followed it closely
Open conversations with child
We chose not to treat it.

We had to patch, so lazy eye should not develop.

It’s less obvious when child is older, since face is bigger. It’s still noticeable.

Is it treatable at an older age? How severe is your child's?any recommendations for doctors for consultation?

I was told the ideal age to tighten the muscle is 9-13, it comes with risk- like tighten to much and then the eyelid doesn’t fully close and the child needs to put something there at night so the eye doesn’t dry out.

We discussed it with my child.
I also discussed it with other parents and mentors.

How old is your child? As a baby it looked worse.

If I remember correctly my child has 3% of vision blocked.

Three of my siblings had it… all had surgery. Some were worse than others and for some the surgery was more successful than others.

My DD has it. Was really bad as a baby. Dr recommended surgery once she turns 4. Dr also said she was at risk of developing an astigmatism due to it. When she hit 4, it was so so much better, that he said to wait until she’s older, as it may just continue improving. She does need glasses for a mild astigmatism, but is no longer at risk of it getting worse from her eyelids. She’s 7 now, will reevaluate in a few years.

Edited to add that I have other kids with astigmatism, unrelated to ptosis.

My high school daughter has it and was told that as long as it doesn’t cover the pupil I can leave it. It does look worse when she’s tired or sick.

I brought my son to a specialist (when he was maybe around 18mths?) who told me no need to do anything (I guess it wasn't obsuring vision?).
It was more pronounced when he was tired or sick.
Now he's in his teens and I rarely see a hint of it b"H.

I have it just slightly. Only noticeable when I smile. (that makes me unphotogenic...) My parents chose not to do the surgery when I was a child. My brother had it much worse, and had surgery when he was 3 years old. He's an adult by now and the lid has gone back to drooping a bit though not as much as it was originally.

Such good timing for this thread. My son is 4 and has a droopy eyelid since birth. To me it looked like it was getting worse and people were asking me about it. Dr shanik told us to check it out with dr pardone to make sure his pupil isnt covered. We actually went to her today and she was wonderful. Bh his pupil isnt covered and she said its purely a cosmetic fix. She also mentioned that it can get better with age. So I'm happy to read this post. And yes when he is tired or sick it's much more pronounced.

My baby was misdiagnosed with it at 5 months old. She had a droopy lid that kept getting worse every few weeks. She was born looking normal and we noticed it at 2 months old…
Turned out she had a himangioma there. It’s like a birthmark under her eyelid. They gave her meds for a year and bh it went away fully.
