I'm ready to hear some of your tips, other than anti-anxiety meds lol.

lol

First of all don’t be so quick to discount meds 🤪

Second of all, most of the things in your op, I don’t own! Got rid of everything I could. How often do your kids do perler beads? Get the ones that stick together with water instead. Also get them beads to make necklaces and bracelets. Give away your iron and ironing board. Once a year that I need to iron a shirt I borrow from a kind neighbor.

Third of all any time you buy something new, You must get rid of two things in its place.

Fourth, any toy the kids haven’t played with in six months, out. Put it at your curb, it’ll be gone in five minutes.

Fifth, we downsized the size of our table so the kids have a bit more room to run around.

Let me know if you want more.

I’ll go through your list to show you that you can easily do without most of these things.

vacuum cleaner? A broom works just fine. Got rid of my vacuum cleaner a long time ago.
Bath towels? In my master bedroom closet. Got rid of half of our clothes we weren’t wearing.
Laundry detergents and other laundry related random items like the cliche, ubiquitous tennis dryer balls I'm supposed to have to fluff up my pillows Wink or the tzitzis thingamijiggies?
All the random thingmajigs, I don’t own. No need. The only thing I have from this list is a bottle of laundry detergent and a bottle of shout. Those go under my kitchen sink.
Lint roller? Don’t need
De-pimpler? I do have a small one that I keep with my clothing
Iron and ironing board? Don’t need
Sewing kit? Don’t need. I own a spool of thread and one needle and keep it in my dresser drawer
Mop? Behind the hamper
Tablecloths? In a kitchen cabinet, and I only have 3. Meat dairy and Shabbos

You mentioned upthread that a shelving unit over toilet for towels and/or detergents wouldn't work because it would interfere with your hanging laundry.

Would you consider putting a 2nd shower curtain rod in the center of your bathtub for the laundry, allowing you to buy such a shelving unit?

Vacuum, I keep on the floor of one of my closets. (Don't know if you still have space in any closet though...)

Brilliant!!! I am ordering another shower rod right now to put into the middle.

My iron and ironing board also found a home near the vacuum cleaner. I ended up putting the suitcases and pack'n'play elsewhere and got some more space inside THE closet. I realized that for the amount of times I use the iron, it doesn't need to hang over the door of a closet that gets opened minimum three times a day and bang and shake with each movement of the door. I'm really excited about the changes I already made!

Op, no advice but I really feel for you! I lived in a tiny two bedroom townhouse for years (smaller than a lot of apartments). But we did have a tiny yard so that was an upgrade over an apt. It was so so stressful. There was a kitchen, living room, and two bedrooms. Bookshelf in the hallway. Washing machine in the closet. Funnily enough we had more bathrooms than bedrooms. I would cry every time something would fall out of a cabinet because there was no room. Iyh you will be able to move to a house! Sending prayers your way 🙏🏻

BTW if you’re not already, you should be storing stuff inside the suitcases.

You're doing a great job! I find I constantly have to reevaluate what's taking up space and which space it's in. Our needs change and we don't realize it, we just realize that it's becoming harder to keep things contained. That's the pain point that forces me to reevaluate. And then it happens again 2 years later.

Nope, the amount that I use my suitcases wouldn't justify storing stuff especially since storage isn't an issue, it's the daily stuff that's a problem. I do keep other luggage pieces in the suitcase such as garment bags and a duffel bag which are used at the same time as the suitcase but thats it, not storing anything else there.

Part of what is depressing me so much is that we already lived in an apartment and now we live in a house. My apartment had a designated laundry area with shelving, a linen closet, a double coat closet, a walk in closet in the master instead of a sliding door closet, and more kitchen cabinets than I have now. If I could tell myself that one day we'll move out of this tiny apartment, there would be something to look forward to, but we already live in a house so the chances are much lower.

Problem is it happens more often than every 2 years. I hate that I need to keep doing this. I hate that my house doesn't serve me well enough that I need to jump through hoops and do mental pretzel twists to make it work for me instead of having a house that works for me. Every few months I reorganize, reshuffle stuff, declutter yet again. Moving stuff from here to there makes me feel better for a short while but doesn't create space that doesn't exist. I feel like I'm in a constant fight with my house. At some point I will concede defeat and give up, then we'll all be swallowed up by the dutch oven I want for my sourdough but didn't buy yet because I don't have where to put it.

I and my bras hanging in the dining room right now thank you for your support. Hopefully I don't fall asleep before packing them away. If I slack one day and don't put away the laundry right away, my dining room gets overrun.

I hear you I had this too and it was hard! Can I say what I did when I had this situation?

Ignore this if you don’t want advice.
I got white cabinets with doors and put them wherever they could fit, so one was a pantry, one was a coat closet, one was a linen closet etc..

Yup. Did this with ikea pax. If there’s the space (we had in bedrooms) it’s life changing when everything has where to be.

We also had way more functional closets in our apartment and downgraded that with a house. But the yard and the privacy are bh incredible.

I read the word humor and thought you were enjoying my sense of humor. Oh well. I'm keeping it vague purposely since unfortunately imamother isn't the only place I vent about my situation.
