Is this a misunderstanding?
Or a misuse of terminology?

The term "verbal" refers to communication using words. Texting is a form of verbal communication. So is email, snail mail and telegram.
The term "oral" refers specifically to speech.
So the question is: Is it sufficient to communicate with your husband verbally, or do you need to communicate orally?

Verbal and oral mean the same thing, the spoken word.
You are very mistaken that texting, mail or email are verbal. They are not.

Verbal means anything involving spoken words. A person who is non-verbal (meaning they don’t speak) can still communicate in other forms- written communication, sign language, etc.
Texting, mail, email, etc- those are all forms of written communication.

"Verbal" can mean either "oral" or "relating to words."

Sorry, Shabbat, but the other PPs have the right of it. That's why body language is called "nonverbal communication"--not because it's unspoken but because it uses no words.
