My daughter is looking to pursue a degree in political science. She isn’t sure what she wants to do for work just yet but thinks this degree might be a good start since she’s somewhat interested in law, government, data analysis, and loves history.
She isn’t the most studious but that’s a different story. Wondering if anyone knew this degree and knows if the classes are transferable like if she decides to start at a Jewish school in the tri state area but maybe wants to move and transfer is it the type of degree where you need to start all over again like with some fields such as medical etc.
And if a one and insight into this degree as far as employable options. Like is this a respectable starting point or would you say it’s like a sociology degree and useless?
No offense to any sociologists

I started out as a poli sci major and found it to be a dead end. I switched to public policy with a concentration in urban studies. It had many more practical applications.

Ty! Can I ask what you felt were the options on public policy?

You can go to grad school for law, a masters in public policy, social work. You can get a job in a local municipality or state or federal government. You can work for a non profit that advocates for policies, some classmates used the urban studies concentration to work in real estate.

I found my classes to be practical vs theoretical when I was a poli sci major. I like practical.

I minored in poli Sci (majored in something more practical), if you major in it, there's really not a lot you can do without graduate school, so if she wants to major, she needs to assume that she will be continuing school after finishing undergrad.
