How do you manage the first year?

Napping in the day is easier said than done, & there's work, housework, errands. And even when baby is sleeping through the night months in, I find that I never quite feel like I've caught up on sleep like I used to be before I had a baby + children.

I don't think there's a magic solution. I just accept that this is how it will be for now.

Agree the sooner you accept that it’s a year or two very temporary and it’ll pass the best advice my neighbor gave me along with a beautiful plant when I had my second baby, she said enjoy her love the chaos of it all because it goes by fast and it’ll pass the sleepless nights are the first 2 months they get on a schedule… but that full night sleep is after your youngest is 3 BH for our beautiful babies we’re zoche to raise.

When a mother wakes up in middle of the night and tends to her baby with rachmanus, that opens the gates of rachamim in shomayim for Hashem to reciprocate His rachamim on us. So says, I think the chofetz chaim, but I don't remember for sure the name of the gadol.

Honestly the only way I manage and am able to go off BC is because my husband does night feedings and deals with any kid that wakes up. I get migraines when I don't get enough sleep.
Also I struggle with insomnia and falling/staying asleep so if a kid wakes me I likely won't fall back asleep for the rest of the night

It’s really hard. I try to make naps a priority and go to sleep as early as possible

In the evening I go to sleep when my baby goes to sleep. So after the little kids are asleep/in bed I do like 30 minutes of quick rush straightening up (mostly just after dinner clean up), throw a load in the washing machine, run the dishwasher and quickly make lunches for the next day. Then I put baby to sleep and go to sleep myself.
Around a couple of hours later I wake up and hang up the laundry and go back to bed.

So my house is a mess. But I’m much more rested than while I was pregnant and couldn’t sleep at all.

I co-sleep. There are still some nights where baby is sick, wants to play not just eat, or needs a midnight diaper, but those are blessedly few and far between.

Co-sleeping changed my life. Before my second was born I read that mothers don't have to be sleep deprived, natural is to nurse and cosleep. I was intrigued but I didn't believe it till I tried... Life changing.

Sometimes you just get lucky with a baby that sleeps well. The other times you just have to deal with it. Its tough while you're in that stage but you forget it really fast once your out of that stage. Hugs from another tired mama

I don't know if there's something wrong with me that I handle sleep deprivation so poorly, but it was basically the number 1 reason I have fewer kids than I would have liked.
