I got a call from someone who said that I'll be getting a food card. I said okay just to humor them. Then they were like, so you're name is "xyz". And that is my last name. I get it that names and phone numbers are available online, but I'm wondering if I should worry because usually they try numbers, and have zero info and are awaiting someone who will sadly fall for their scam and give them info or $. I'm a little nervous.

If you didn’t give them any info you have nothing to worry about. Did you give any info at all?

They have sophisticated computer programs to make them sound legitimate. Don't worry

Its fine, they usually get the name and number from a list which is illegally bought off other companies.
so if you have ever signed up for emails or updates from any brand there is a chance their list was taken with your name and number and sold to scammers.

Honestly, even before the days of smart tech, anyone could get your name and number from the yellow pages. Don’t worry about it.

Right but when it’s your cell it feels weird but that is available online.

Something about Medicare recipients. There may be legitimate times they get one. I’m unsure.

I think the scam is that they record you saying "yes" and now they have your name number and verbal agreement.

That’s very public info. With someone’s phone number I can find out their name, address, email addresses, family names, family contact info. From there I can go on to find out job info, social media, piece together their history. Often I can also put together a general typical schedule for them and know where they’ve been traveling to as well
There’s so much someone can find out with internet searches alone
