Can anyone tell me if it’s good and worth the price. I don’t own one at all but would love to try to save money and start baking and possibly making challah too. Can the 7qt one make challah? Is it worth it to spend that much more than the 5qt artisan series. Any input appreciated! They are on sale now so considering it if it’s a good investment.
(My husb is very against German owned brands so won’t be able to get a Bosch)

The kitchen aid motor is not strong enough for heavy 5 lb challah dough.
If you want it for challah, get the Basch.
KA is great for cakes and cookies.

Even the 7qt can’t make challah? If so, then should I just get the standard 5qt? The 7qts is 500 watts just like the Bosch so wondering why it can’t perform the same.

I had the 6 qt with 575 wattage, and it started smoking when I tried masking challah.
Not sure about the 7 qt. Perhaps it could.

I have the 7 quart and love it, but it's not strong enough for a 6 lb flour dough. For that, I use my Bosch

I've heard large challah doughs will kill kitchen aids. I wouldn't get a kitchen aid to make challah dough.

I bought a 5qt KA for challah and was disappointed. It works for me only because I use all of 4-5 CUPS of flour at a shot. That's about all it can handle without pulling the dough up the hook and sucking it into the motor. For cakes I don't bother, just mix by hand with a sturdy wooden spoon.
Of course if I ever needed to weight down a floor tile while the adhesive cured, the KA aka "boat anchor" would be ideal.

I love my KA for challah, but I never make 5 lbs at once. 7 cups max. But that's all I need for 1 or 2 weeks' worth of challah. It's a great machine. I've had the same one for almost 30 years.

The 7 quart can make 5 lb of challah. I have the 6 quart and I used to make 5 pounds with it by mixing up about 4.5 lbs and then hand kneading in the rest. You need to use the dough hook on speed 2, never higher. I thought about upgrading to the 7 qt but honestly the easiest way to make challah is by hand. This way I can make 6 pounds, 10 pounds, whatever I need.

I make 4 -5 cups in my 5qt.
3 consecutive batches uses a 5 lb bag of glick bread flour. I can make it batch in less than 5 minutes. I dump it all in one big bowl to rise and make a bracha after it has all risen together.

I love my KA for cakes, cookies and small doughs, but challah I knead by hand
