I bought chairs that cost about 450 each. A few years old. My toddler climbed on one with crocs and it caused one chair to tear. Now I see a few are tearing on the sides like a rip that will just keep peeling if not fixed. Also the back seam is opening on a few of them. Maybe from the weight of ppl sitting in it… So upset because they were expensive Italian chairs. Anyone have experience fixing something like that? Is it worth it? Or I just wait for them to rip more and get so bad and then replace them?
The chairs are Alf Italia heritage dining room chairs.
Chairs are going to be expensive to fix.
Assuming the padding is good and doesn’t need to be touched - figure $100-150 minimum to reupholster + the cost of the fabric.
It also depends on the seat style. Is the fabric stapled directly to the wood or can the seat cushion be lifted off. If the seat cushion can be lifted off that is often easier to change and much cheaper.
I appreciate the reply @Amother yarrow. Those are eco leather chairs. The bottom doesn’t come off, the bottom and back is all a taupe leather, and the legs are wood. There’s a small tear on a few chairs, assuming maybe when my kids climbed on it and it’s a soft leather. Also like I said the back seam on like 2 chairs are opening. They are very expensive and never thought this would happen. 100-150 is cheaper then replacing it. We love our chairs and it’s part of our full dining set. Do you think it’s worth it and will it last? I see those small cheap kits online but doubt the color will match or it’ll do anything good.

I checked what eco leather is. Google tells me it's usually vinyl or plant based. It doesn't come from an animal.
I suggest you to get cheap plastic chairs for the kids to step on if needed.
Check with people who deal with upholstering. Hope you can save them.
I reupholstered my chairs on my own - it was a great project done over the winter last yr and total cost was $600 all in. I really am enjoying them! They were just a few yrs old and the leather completely shredded and looked gross- I don’t believe they were genuine leather like we were told. I redid w vinyl.
