Saw a woman I know davening shmoneh esrei in one of the aisles. Must've been the last few minutes to daven Mincha. Struck me as odd. What do you think if you see someone doing this? Is it the right thing to do? Am I just being judgy?

I wouldn’t imagine it ideal, but why are we judging her?

Don’t do it yourself, but if you see someone else doing it, don’t make something of it.

I would be super impressed that this lady doesn't care what other people will think so she can daven before shkia! We need more of those ladies!
(Although not the ideal place to daven, I understand that it can happen!)

Maybe she has a child to marry off? What should she do, not do the family shopping so she doesn't miss the zman?

It could be she took on a Kabbalah like 40 days of mincha or something and she remembered at the last minute.

I think it's the chutz l'aretz version of Osher Ad. The logos are too similar for it to be coincidence.

Personally, I'd have found a corner, rather than in the middle of the aisle, but nothing wrong with it in principle.

Bingo has a men’s mincha minyan every day, maybe she decided to join in the next aisle while her husband davened.

I was going to add that in Israel they have a shul and regular mincha minyanim. I think maariv as well, at least at this time of year. One year I even wandered in Purim morning for something, and there was a Megillah reading going on!

Love this. One year I heard Megillah in the maternity ward of Shaarei Tzedek. But it could be they have that in chul as well.

I dont think its tznius for a woman to daven on public I remember learning it once. Maybe something to do with chanuka.
Also when someone does such a thing it comes off as fake to me

I doubt that she considered davening in the supermarket as ideal, and im sure she cokld gave had better kavana in a more suitable location. However, given that it was close to shkiya, would you consider it better not daven or to appear in your eyes as not tzanua and fake?

ok I'll say it - davening at the grocery store - I can see it happen and no problem.
Davening in a grocery isle? Like you can't go to the corner by the milk at least?

I've noticed there are those women who want everyone to see them daven mincha. They make a big deal out of it. I was at jury duty about a year ago and there was another frum women who kept talking about how she had to daven mincha, then made an issue out of it. There were about 8 frum men there as well and they also davened but much more discreetly.

I've been out with friends who also make a huge deal out of davening mincha. They davka want the praise.

This women - I have no idea what her thought was and I assume it was not for attention because it never hurts to assume the best of someone. But to not find a more discreet corner - thats the thing that's strange to me.

We always learned that a woman should not daven in public where there are men around. I’m sure she had a good reason for doing so.
