OP I am sorry this happened to your neice. I am also a Long time Bnos mom. Last year one of my girls didn’t get accepted. I think the only person who can help is Mrs Frankel if we are talking about Bnos. If you are talking about Chayil then it will be different. Feel free to pm me.

Rumor has it bnos did not take back many returning campers this summer. I do not know the reason why. The ones I know of are good kids- no reason whatsoever they shouldn’t have gotten in easily (my daughter was a counselor to some of these girls and can attest that they were not problem kids)

Your sibling knows who she is she’s one of the heads. But it’s better if she contacts her about her one kid…

I have a feeling this is about Chayil. As a Bnoser I know that most girls want to go to Chayil first half even though they perhaps have gone 2nd half in the past. It literally makes a difference how soon you apply. If an 2nd half girl applied on the first day of priority registration for first half she will get in. You can't wait around. Is it possible your sister didn't apply as soon as registration opened? There was about 3 weeks between priority registration and new campers. Girls already got answers only a few days after they applied.

Why is it proper ettiquette that a kid who already had 4 years in camp should get a slot before a kid who didnt have a chance to go at all?
Just because thays how it's usually done doesn't mean it's right.

I have no idea how kesser shenla will turn out, but I have friends who know the directors and think it will be great!!
Maybe this is a difficult parsha, but will lead your niece to something better for her.

I also think this sounds like a chayil issue!

OP if it’s about chayil then Mrs. Frankel can’t help. She would need Mrs. Kuntslinger but truthfully at this point I think it’s unlikely to get in. I have a daughter that wasn’t accepted to chayil last year and there was nothing to do about it.

Realy? I dont think raisin meant to be nasty! She's always been a very kind and polite poster. The truth? Raisin does not live in the USA. Neither do I. We Europeans do not fully understand the American camp mentality. To us its kind of differnet. intersting. maybe even a little weird? dont mean to be nasty, just its different! So probbably raisin was responding based on her lack of understanding of the American camp situation. (like I dont understand it either.)

As another camp staff member, I disagree that opening a thread about this is L"H. If anything, camps will start paying attention and change will happen. The camp I go to never, ever rejects a returning camper unless she was a severe behavior problem, and trust me she was given plenty of warnings first.

I also agree with the reasonable explanation that amother wrote upthread. When girls age out of Bnos and go into Chayil, many of them want to switch to first half. If your niece was a second-halfer for years and suddenly wants to switch to first half, she has plenty of competition just from returning campers like herself. If she didn't indicate that she's open to coming second half then she forfeited her chance to come back to camp at all.

Most litvish/yeshivish camps are only 4 years to start with. Like 7th-10th grade.

Think of it like school. Imagine a school not accepting your child back after being there for 4 years. For me camp was more important than school. I literally lived for the summer. Some of my closest friends were my camp friends. I kept up with them all year. I think this may help you understand why not getting accepted back to camp can be devastating.

I hear that, though I don't think it's quite the same as not being allowed back for another year of school.

At the same time, I can't help but think of the girl who didn't get in the 1st 3 years, and this is her 1st, if not only, opportunity to experience overnight camp. In the bigger scheme if things, why us she less important than someone who had a turn 3 times over? Maybe she applied ealier this year and it was a 1st-come, 1st-serve basis?
In any case, I'm not from a community that usually sends highschool girls to overnight camp as campers, so maybe that's why I see it as "she had her turn, now someone else is getting a chance."
But yes, being left out of the group is really tough.
